Job Description

The Captain-Of-The-Watch (COW) is responsible for managing the operation of the casino riverboat to ensure compliance with all applicable USCG, ABSC regulations and the policies/procedures of Horseshoe Bossier City and Caesars Entertainment. COW is also responsible for serving both the external and internal customers by providing a clean, friendly and safe atmosphere on the riverboat.

  • Provides extraordinary guest service, positively effects interactions with external and internal guests and employees and has the resiliency to deal with difficult guests in all types of business conditions and the ability to work harmoniously with co-workers.

  • Adhere to and enforce compliance with all regulations established by Louisiana State Police Gaming Division, United States Coast Guard, ABS Consulting and other applicable agencies pertaining to riverboat gaming and riverboat operations while adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by Horseshoe Bossier City and Caesars Entertainment.

  • Manage routine and preventative maintenance programs, all emergency procedures including fire, evacuation, etc. for the riverboat. Ensure that all emergencies are drilled and documented regularly (every emergency drilled quarterly) to guarantee that employees are proficient in knowing how to handle any emergency.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and regulations, as well as state, local and federal ordinances.

  • Participates and contributes toward the initiatives established for marine operations.

  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent

  • Must pass a chemical dependency test as required and work in a drug free environment.

  • Must have five or more years of experience working under the CIC on this riverboat or equivalent marine experience. Equivalent marine experience may include, but is not limited to:

( (a) Current or previously credentialed mariner having a Mate or higher-grade license. If license is expired, it is not older than ten years and was not revoked or suspended.

( (b) Previously department/division head aboard government or military vessels that was less than ten years ago.

( (c) Previous operator of uninspected vessels that was less than ten years ago.

Equivalent marine experience for items (b) and (c): must show knowledge of vessel systems comparable to those aboard the riverboat, crew management, and general recordkeeping/administration, including inspecting for shipboard material condition and good housekeeping. References or other proof of successful completion of duties will be required.

  • Must successfully complete Basic Fire Fighting from Bossier City Fire Department

  • Must have taken the State-approved First Aid/CPR program instructed in-house by Risk Manager

  • Must have completed the COW Qualification Program

  • Must maintain an overall Performance Approval level of “Successful” or better

  • Ability to obtain Non-Key LA Gaming License and Responsible Vendor Certification.
