  • Plan, organize, implement and conduct supervisory training.
  • Research, evaluate and present branch budget needs.
  • Devise, coordinate and implement training plan for branch yearly.
  • Manage staff to include administrative & disciplinary actions carry out/recommend appropriate action to the division director/asst division director and major.
  • Establish/maintain/coordinate with institutions/divisions/outside agencies or departments regarding training needs/issues.
  • Supervise Admin. Lts., EPMS and implementation of position descriptions.
  • Audit and document training to ensure compliance.
  • Screen, conduct Interviews, make selections for vacancies.
  • Hold staff meetings to ensure dissemination of information/training aids.
  • Monitor/audit/make appropriate notifications of employee CLEE certifications.
  • Process CLEE extensions and exceptions to mandatory training.
  • Performs other various job-related duties and staff functions as assigned.
  • Assists with instruction of in-service training, supervisory performs other various job-related duties and staff functions as assigned.
  • Assists with instruction of in-service training, supervisory classes, firearms instruction, defensive tactics instruction, first aid CPR instruction and less lethal munitions instructions when necessary.
  • Forecasts and submits branch budgetary needs for training aids, classroom equipment, computer hardware and software needs for institutional trainers and other training equipment needed to accomplish the task of in-service training.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, be able to lift 40 lbs, and successfully complete a physical agility assessment.
  • Must also maintain performance standards for all T4Ts. (Basic T4T, basic, defensive tactics, defensive driving, ICS for corrections, firearms, first aid/CPR/AED, less lethal munitions and respiratory fit testing.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Examples of duties

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and six (6) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include two (2) years of supervisory experience.

  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 years).

  • Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.

Required teaching/training experience:

A bachelor's degree plus two (2) years teaching/training;

OR

An associate degree plus four (4) years teaching/training experience;

OR

A high school diploma plus six (6) years teaching/training experience.

Must successfully acquire a CDL within 1 year and successfully complete the following T4T courses: Basic Defensive Driving, Defensive Tactics, Incidents, ICS for Corrections, Firearms, First AID/CPR and AED, less lethal munitions, and respiratory fit testing.

Must successfully complete a physical agility assessment and maintain performance standards for all T4Ts.
