Qualifications, Experience & Skill

Competence (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities)

  • Ability to understand technical details
  • Strong aptitude for mathematics and mental calculation
  • Good eye-hand co-ordination to handle the aircraft skillfully
  • Ability to think quickly and make quick decisions and work calmly under pressure
  • Ability to give clear and confident instructions to crew members and passengers
  • Ability to inspire confidence in both passengers and crew
  • Flexibility in working hours
  • Physically fit with excellent vision, including normal colour vision
  • Self-motivation and determination to succeed
  • High degree of discipline and teamwork

Qualification & Experience

  • A minimum of 3000 hours total flying time including 1000 hours Pilot In Command (PIC) and at least 2000 hours flying multi-crew turboprop or jet aircraft
  • Valid ICAO ATPL with EMB145 type-rating or Valid Ghana ATPL
  • Valid passport
  • Valid/current Medical Certificate (Class one)
  • No history of incidents/accidents
  • Must provide a letter from your current/previous employer or CAA
  • Minimum ICAO Level 4 English proficiency
  • No criminal history
  • Must provide a notarized and authenticated proof of no criminal history document from your home country (Non-Ghanaians)

Key Tasks

  • Be responsible for the safe operation of the aeroplane and safety of its occupants and cargo during flight.
  • Give necessary commands to secure the safety of the aeroplane and of persons or property carried therein, and all persons carried in the aeroplane shall obey such commands.
  • Ensure that all operational procedures and checklists are complied with, in accordance with the Company’s Operations Manuals.
  • Ensure that the weather forecast and reports for the proposed operating area and flight duration indicate that the flight may be conducted without infringing company operating minima.
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure that the aeroplane, and any required equipment is serviceable and that relevant emergency equipment is serviceable and ready for use.
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure that the aeroplane mass and balance are within the calculated limits for the operating conditions.
  • Ensure completion of all pertinent records of the flight and ensure the compliance of checklists.
  • Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with the rules, laws and regulations where flights are conducted.
  • Maintain a high personal standard of discipline, conduct and appearance as a representative of Africa World Airlines at all times.

Africa World Airlines Limited (AWA) is a private-sector Ghanaian airline that operates from a base in Accra. The airline is a joint venture between HNA Group/Hainan Airlines and other Chinese and Ghanaian shareholders.

AWA has been issued with Air Carrier License (ACL) number 222 and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) number 030 by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). The airline commenced flight operations on 21st September 2012 with all-jet services from Accra to Kumasi and Tamale using Embraer 145 aircraft. The airline now operates 8 aircraft on a route network encompassing 10 destinations throughout West Africa.
