Job Description

Are you a highly analytical finance professional with a strong understanding of capital management and regulatory requirements? We are seeking a Capital Specialist to support the organization’s capital adequacy framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while optimizing capital efficiency.



The Capital Specialist assists the Head of Group Capital Management in optimizing the allocation and utilization of the Group's capital resources across all GHL operational territories. This role includes collaborating on strategy development to improve capital utilization efficiency through financial and scenario modelling, evaluating the regulatory environment of all the Group's regulated entities, and offering actionable insights for implementing capital efficiency measures.

The Capital Specialist may also perform quantitative analysis of financial data to identify appropriate distributable assets for the Group. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for monitoring the insurance regulatory landscape and communicating updates or changes in capital reports to inform the business.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Collaborate with different business units to gather and integrate inputs for the capital model and metrics dashboard:

- Gather capital and financial data from various stakeholders within the group.

- Collaborate with the Head of Group Capital Management to accurately analyse and interpret the data.

2. Calculate and monitor key metrics related to capital, acting as the custodian of the capital performance management system:

- Thoroughly evaluate data before inputting it into the capital models.

- Prepare a dashboard to display and monitor key "north star" metrics.

- Collaborate with the Head of Capital Management to interpret metrics and generate capital insights.

- Work with the Head of Capital Management to produce a comprehensive capital reporting and insights package

3. Develop and model capital optimization scenarios by analysing strategic initiatives and collecting inputs from business units.

- Collaborate with the strategic initiative office and program management office to evaluate inputs for scenario modelling.

- Proactively identify and recommend solutions for emerging capital issues.

4. Identify and convert capital optimization opportunities into actionable model variables

- Provide actionable recommendations to address emerging issues or capitalize on positive trends

5. Analyse data trends, including shifts in regulatory requirements for insurance and other financial institutions across the geographical regions where GHL operates.

6. Collaborate with the Head of Group Capital Management to generate reports for executive meetings such as the Capital Management Executive Committee, Asset and Liability Committee, and Board of Directors Meetings as needed.

7. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Head, Group Capital Management.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• BSC Actuarial Science

• At least five years of experience in financial analysis & reporting in the insurance or banking sector.

• Experience working with insurance accounting standards, capital adequacy regulations and frameworks strongly preferred

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

As a regulated entity with obligations under the Know Your Employee guidelines, a Certificate of Character is required.

The Capital Specialist is required to exhibit meticulous, systematic, and logical approaches in their work. They must demonstrate efficient management of time and resources. Proficiency in performing extensive numerical tasks with speed and precision is essential. The incumbent should be self-motivated and dynamic, displaying initiative and resilience in high-pressure situations. An ideal candidate will possess strong research and analytical capabilities, complemented by excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should adeptly schedule tasks, set quality benchmarks, and adhere to deadlines. Proactivity, decisiveness, and the capacity to make prompt, effective decisions are also crucial attributes for this role.
