Viva Energy Australia is seeking a Capital Portfolio Manager to establish and lead a centralised Retail Capital Portfolio Management function. This newly created, high-impact role will bring structure, visibility and governance to the planning, prioritisation and delivery of capital investments across a national retail network.

Accountable for portfolio governance, investment performance and delivery oversight, the successful candidate will ensure the capital portfolio remains aligned to strategic business priorities, leveraging operational analytics and business insights to optimise CAPEX allocation and maximise value delivery

You’ll partner closely with Retail, Property, Construction and Finance leaders to ensure projects are governed effectively, investment decisions are well supported, and delivery is consistent, transparent and scalable.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Develop and maintain a strategically aligned capital portfolio, ensuring investment priorities support retail strategy, operational objectives, and long-term growth
  • Establish and lead a centralised Retail Capital Portfolio Management function, including frameworks, governance, and standardised ways of working
  • Drive investment governance across the portfolio, leading prioritisation, business cases, stage-gate approvals, and CapEx reporting in partnership with Finance
  • Oversee delivery of a diverse capital program (new sites, refurbishments, infrastructure), ensuring project managers adhere to PM practices (clear scope, budgets, timelines, and accountability)
  • Leverage business analytics, operational insights and retail performance data to inform investment decisions, optimise CAPEX allocation, and ensure the portfolio delivers maximum value and business outcomes
  • Provide portfolio visibility, maintaining a consolidated view of pipeline, active and deferred projects, with clear reporting on performance, risks and progress
  • Manage risk and quality, embedding consistent practices to proactively identify, mitigate, and escalate issues
  • Partner across the business (Retail, Property, Operations, Finance, Procurement) to align priorities, coordinate delivery, and enable effective decision-making
  • Drive disciplined execution, promoting transparency, accountability, and early identification of risks and dependencies
  • Support benefits realisation and continuous improvement, tracking outcomes and refining portfolio processes over time

Qualifications

  • Experience in Capital Portfolio Management, project or program management
  • Experience implementing governance or delivery frameworks
  • Strong organisational and coordination capability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
  • Strong communication and influencing skills

Desirable

  • Experience in retail, fuel, convenience or multi-site environments
  • Experience in business analytics, data/business insights for retail operations to ensure informed and optimise capex spend
  • Exposure to capital delivery or construction-related projects Experience in continuous improvement, and change management would be highly beneficial
  • Experience working with Finance and reporting processes
  • Relevant project management qualification
