Alberta Education and Childcare, with technical input from Alberta Infrastructure, reviews submissions from school boards for new building and building renovation projects to assess, prioritize and submit capital funding requests to the Alberta Government's capital planning process. In addition to developing the provincial school capital plan, Alberta Education and Childcare develops policies and procedures for the effective planning and implementation of the school facilities capital program, the Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) program, and new initiatives/programs as approved by the Minister of Education such as facility programs for independent, collegiate, and charter schools.
The Strategic Implementation Branch plans and delivers diverse strategic initiatives and mandate items for the Capital Planning Sector. This includes taking the lead on emergent priorities such as Collegiates, Charters, Francophones, and Childcare Spaces. The Branch is also accountable for taking the lead on alternative project delivery and funding activities, including but not limited to Unsolicited Proposals, P3s, and the Canada Infrastructure Bank. Reporting to a Manager of Capital Planning, the Capital Planning Analyst works closely across capital planning branches, as well as staff from Strategic Initiatives branch, to provide the specialized expertise and analysis of Alberta school jurisdictions capital plans. The incumbent will provide the technical analysis and recommendations to ensure school infrastructure is aligned with current educational needs from a programming, health and safety, and utilization perspective. This position is part of a team responsible for providing a comprehensive range of capital planning and project support services, technical and professional consultation, and assistance to clients and stakeholders.
The Analyst supports assigned strategic initiatives and mandate projects within existing capital planning and project management frameworks and processes (e.g., pilot programs, bringing novel, one-of-a-kind, or exploratory concepts into operations). Based on the specific needs of the project, the Analyst will provide technical subject-matter or program expertise to facilitate the conceptualization and framing of the project and then supports its implementation.
The role provides technical analysis to support effective capital planning and infrastructure management for the K–12 education system and works collaboratively with ministry, cross-government, and external stakeholders to achieve government and ministry business goals, guided by the Alberta Government’s core values of respect, integrity, accountability, and excellence.

University graduation degree (preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Infrastructure, etc.) in a related field plus at least two years' experience working in an environment related to facility design and/or capital planning for public infrastructure or equivalent as described below.
