CAPE- Community Connector- Temporary Help, Local Government

Part-Time

Non Exempt, Paygrade 31

No Benefits, Non VRS Eligible

**This is a temporary position currently funded through June 20, 2027. Continuation beyond that date is subject to future budget approval.**

Position Summary:

The Community Connector supports the County’s communications, public engagement, and community outreach efforts, with a primary focus on coordinating Community Advisory Committees (CACs). This position coordinates CAC operations, plans and supports community engagement activities, develops and manages content across digital and social media platforms, and works with County departments to ensure information is accurate, consistent, and accessible. The position also supports outreach, events, and communications initiatives through a variety of content and engagement methods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, schedules, and publicly announces recurring Community Advisory Committee meetings
  • Serves as the primary coordinator of CAC operations, ensuring meetings are organized and correctly conducted
  • Attend CAC meetings to provide support and foster positive interaction
  • Track metrics related to CAC participation, meetings, and public engagement to support reporting efforts
  • Conduct outreach campaigns to fill vacancies and maintain quorums and other public engagement opportunities
  • Attend public outreach activities including town halls, tabling at community events, and other public-facing interactions
  • Works closely with other County departments and functional teams to identify informational needs and coordinate content, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILIITES:

Knowledge of: Public information, communications, graphic design, digital media, and public meeting regulations.

Ability to: Communicate effectively; build strong relationships; coordinate projects and programs; develop and present community-based initiatives; manage multiple priorities; work effectively under pressure; facilitate collaboration and consensus; and maintain confidentiality.

Skills in: Leadership, interpersonal communication, project coordination, customer service, presentation, organization, problem-solving, and independent work.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in communications, urban planning, global studies, sociology, public policy, graphic design, and/or marketing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Functional knowledge of computer software and MS Windows operating system.
  • Experience in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, other online design editing applications and, social media platforms.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular contact is made with senior County decision makers.
  • Liaison with other departments and members of the public required.
  • Usually there is a need to motivate, gain support or influence individuals or groups.
  • Regular lifting and movement of audio-visual equipment weighing up to 40 pounds is necessary.
  • Work is typically performed in meeting rooms, conference rooms, homes, schools and public buildings.
  • Eligible for hybrid telework.

SALARY: $32.22/Hour
