Job Description

Act as a Finance business partner within the ITS BCS organization, supporting the execution of technology strategies, policies, and solutions impacting Inventory Accounting and Product Costing. Ensure that delivery teams clearly understand business requirements and prioritize high-value features aligned with the company’s mission and strategic objectives.

This role requires deep expertise in cost accounting processes and the ability to translate complex business and reporting requirements into effective system solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of Product Costing leading practices, SAP S/4HANA Finance, and relevant integrations across finance and operational systems.

Key areas of expertise include:

  • Costing variants, Results Analysis, and Material Ledger (including Actual Costing)
  • Product Costing processes and standard costing methodologies
  • Financial reporting tools and data structures
  • Parallel ledgers, parallel valuation, and Controlling integration
  • Integration across core SAP modules (FI, MM, SD, PP, PS) and external tools (e.g., Blackline)

The Capability & Product Owner serves as the finance lead for financial systems related to Product Costing and Inventory Accounting. This role defines the “what” and “why” from a finance perspective—translating accounting and operational requirements into clear functional designs, priorities, and expected outcomes.

Working closely with stakeholders across Finance, Accounting, IT, and Operations, this role ensures that systems deliver accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and scalable, efficient processes. The role partners with the Technical Product Owner, who is responsible for technical delivery and platform operations.

This position reports to the Global Finance Business Partner within ITS BCS.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Finance Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Act as the Product Owner for finance systems, defining functional requirements, priorities, success criteria, and business outcomes.
  • Develop and drive long-term financial systems strategy in alignment with finance leadership, IT, and enterprise goals.
  • Own the finance functional roadmap, including enhancements, upgrades, and implementations.

Process Design & SAP Expertise

  • Lead the design and implementation of SAP Controlling processes, including:
    • Cost and Profit Center Accounting
    • Internal Orders
    • Product Costing
    • Profitability Analysis (Margin Analysis)
    • Material Ledger and Actual Costing
  • Ensure strong integration with Financial Accounting (General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Project Systems) and other SAP modules (MM, SD, PP, PS).
  • Apply deep understanding of standard costing, cost consolidation, markup elimination, and related configurations.

Requirements Translation & Delivery Alignment

  • Translate finance and accounting requirements into clear, actionable functional specifications.
  • Partner with IT delivery teams to ensure solutions are aligned with product strategy and prioritized appropriately.
  • Provide guidance to project teams on design, development, and enhancements without direct system administration responsibilities.

Financial Operations & Controls

  • Ensure systems effectively support core finance processes, including:
    • Month-end close
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Consolidation and reporting
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure audit readiness (SOX, data privacy, information security).

Governance & Compliance

  • Support IT governance processes such as intake, change management, release management, and portfolio prioritization.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise standards including SDLC, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in data quality, reporting usability, and operational efficiency.
  • Leverage advanced analytics and emerging technologies (including AI) to enhance finance capabilities.
  • Support BI and analytics initiatives to improve financial insights and decision-making.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance, Accounting, IT, and business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with vendors and consultants, owning financial scope, success metrics, and value realization.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, digital innovation, and leading practices in financial systems.

Preferred Profile

  • Strong experience partnering across Finance, Accounting, and Technology teams
  • Deep expertise in SAP S/4HANA Finance and Controlling, Product Costing, Inventory valuation principles
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into scalable system solutions
  • Experience with financial system integrations and external tools (e.g., Blackline)
  • Strategic mindset with strong stakeholder management and communication skills

EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Finance/Accounting or equivalent); Advanced Degree desirable or an equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience working with SAP Controlling with focus on Product Costing and exposure to costing of different Production Strategies such as Make-to-Stock, Make-to-Order.
  • In-depth knowledge of Overhead Cost Accounting, Integrated Financial Planning, Margin Analysis, Universal Allocations, proficiency in integration points with other modules affecting Product Costing results (Material Management, Production Planning, Financial Accounting).
  • Deep knowledge of Financial Accounting, Controlling modules and reporting functions.
  • Hands-on experience in supporting the business with troubleshooting issues.
  • Extensive experience with technical issues in large environments with complex financial supply chain flows.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for interaction with personnel both within and outside the company and at all levels including ability to effectively communicate with sometimes demanding clients
  • Proven applications and technical knowledge, including relevant hardware and software systems of large-scale enterprise systems
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and planning skills
  • Application management and development expertise
  • An ability to negotiate vendor product features, functions, and schedules, on behalf of the company
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Approaches all new challenges and requirements from a process and operational efficiency mindset
