Job Description

Do you want to be involved in transforming the core Scottish Government (SG) estate? This may be a new opportunity for you.

Workplace Division provide services to assist with the smooth, safe and environmentally friendly running of SG buildings and fleet. There are approximately 60 sites with a variety of different building types which make up the core SG estate.

The division also provides a range of place-related corporate services - including workplaces, travel, security and business continuity and leads on workplace strategy, including medium and longer-term policy options for our workplaces. This is carried out across various units in the division:

  • Business, Strategy and Governance
  • Estates Projects
  • Facilities Services
  • Security and Business Continuity

This post sits within Estates Project’s Estates Change and Workplace Improvement Team. The team is dedicated to delivering estate planning services and a variety of capital and resource-related property projects across the core SG estate. These projects vary in scope, from scheduled or reactive maintenance to large-scale development initiatives, specifically aimed at enhancing internal workspaces for colleagues.

The B3 Project Manager post will be assigned medium to large-scale projects aligned to the Scottish Single Estate programme, designed to optimise public sector property by making it more sustainable, efficient and cost effective. Typical projects will include office relocation, fit-outs and refurbishments. Activities will involve instructing and overseeing feasibility studies and works through to the end delivery of a project, with a key role in governance and working with Principal Designers, Contractors and stakeholders to deliver against clearly defined outcomes that are achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints.

This role sits under the Government Property Profession, and also incorporates technical capability/professional requirements from the Project Delivery profession

Responsibilities

  • Delivering and co-ordinating projects in a safe, efficient and effective manner that provides value for money and meets agreed criteria in terms of programme, cost management and quality.
  • Leading on budget preparation, cost tracking and change approval processes ensuring project expenditure aligns with financial forecasts.
  • Assuming responsibility for delivering projects that introduce change and continuous improvement. It is essential you are an advocate for estate and improvement change projects and can work collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Engaging with senior stakeholders both internal and external to SG to ensure all requirements are captured.
  • Ensuring opportunities exist for both stakeholder feedback and lessons learned to be incorporated into future works.

The role may require travel between Scottish Government and public bodies sites.

Working pattern

This role is a temporary position with an expected commitment of 6 months.
