Job Shift: DayMost Precious Blood Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking a part-time Cantor for the parish.  The Cantor/Tenor Section Leader serves as a primary ministerial leader of song. This dual role requires the ability to transition seamlessly between solo proclamation at the ambo and collaborative leadership within the choral ensemble. The individual must possess a strong Tenor voice, capable of both leading the assembly and reinforcing the choral texture. This is a part-time position.
Ministerial Character:
The Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (The Diocese) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Key Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Solo Leadership (The Ambo): Solemnly proclaim the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation. Lead the assembly in congregational hymns and Mass parts with a clear, inviting tone and professional gestural invitations
- Choral Leadership (Section Leading): When not serving at the ambo, provide vocal leadership for the Tenor section of the parish choir including:
- - Maintaining a strong, accurate Tenor line to support volunteer singers
- - Assisting the Director of Music in teaching parts or modeling healthy vocal technique during rehearsals
- - Ensuring a cohesive choral blend within the section and the larger ensemble
- Musical Preparation: Arrive fully prepared with all assigned repertoire, including both solo cantor music and choral scores (Anthems, Motets, and Harmonized Hymnody)
Professional Standards & Comportment:
Because this role is a visible representative of the parish and the Church, the following standards are required:
- Professional Conduct: While the parish respects the private views of all employees, the Cantor/Section Leader is expected to maintain a professional demeanor that is respectful of the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church
- Appearance: A well-groomed, professional appearance is required at all times
- - Attire: Business professional or modest liturgical attire
- - Footwear: Closed-toe professional shoes are mandatory. Sneakers, flip-flops, or casual athletic footwear are not permitted
Terms of Engagement:
- Annual Review: This position is subject to an annual performance and curriculum review at the conclusion of each program year, typically coinciding with the Feast of Corpus Christi
- Renewal: Engagement is for the duration of the program year. At the time of the annual review, either the parish or the Cantor may choose not to renew the agreement for the following year. This "no-fault" non-renewal may be exercised by either party without cause
Mental/Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform tasks in both an office setting and in outdoor environment
- Ability to maintain composure under duress

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Strong vocal proficiency and the ability to read music fluently
- Experience in choral singing and the ability to hold a part independently
- Reliable punctuality and professional communication
- Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and members of the community
- Flexible schedule
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
- Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
