Salary Range The full pay range for this role is $21.35 to $50.29 per hour. The target range for this position is $27.00 to $43.00 per hour based on level. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

Scope of JobThis position will conducting maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair of wind turbines and/or photovoltaic power and energy storage systems. Learns and applies EDF Core values: safety, teamwork, respect, passion, transparency, good sense, and accountability. Higher level technicians will also perform troubleshooting and repairs on one or more types of renewable energy generators.

Required Training: Each Renewable Energy Technician will attend a mandatory three (3) week training and certification course at the start of their employment. The exact duration will be determined based on experience and qualifications. The training is in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and travel, accommodation, and expenses will be provided.

This position is on-site in Tiverton, Ontario, Canada

Responsibilities

Role

Primary Focus

On-the-Job Autonomy & Leadership

Technician 1 (Entry-Level)

Assists experienced technicians with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Focuses on learning and applying safety protocols.

Works under specific direction and direct supervision.

Technician 2 (Experienced)

Performs preventative maintenance independently and conducts routine troubleshooting, repairs, and minor upgrades.

Responsible for independent preventative maintenance Participates in the weekend " On Call" rotation.

Technician 3 (Senior)

Performs unsupervised routine and corrective maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and leads teams on routine tasks.

Unsupervised execution of all corrective/preventative maintenance. May train and oversee Techs 1 & 2.

Technician 4 (Expert/Lead)

Performs unsupervised advanced corrective and preventative maintenance and leads major repairs. Acts as a subject matter expert (SME).

Trains and signs off on the competency of Techs 1-3. Assists with overseeing site crews/contractors in manager absence.

Technician 5 (Expert/Lead)

Performs unsupervised advanced corrective and preventative maintenance and leads major repairs. Acts as a subject matter expert (SME).

Shared Responsibilities (Applicable to All Levels)

All technicians share a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and asset integrity.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures, and lead site safety assessments.
  • Maintain company property and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Accurately complete all administrative work, including daily maintenance logs, work orders, time tracking, and warranty/inventory documentation.
  • Attend all required safety and technical training.
  • Maintain the highest level of system integrity and support site budget control by seeking efficiencies.
  • Technician levels 2-5 participate in a weekend on-call rotation for system monitoring and fault identification.

Experience

Basic computer knowledge; ability to follow instructions.

Basic knowledge of schematics, multi-meter use, and electrical/mechanical components.

Deep competency in generation theory. Advanced knowledge of electrical safety, arc flash standards, and NEC. Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools.

Advanced working knowledge of wind/ solar industry best practices and the ability to effectively coach, instruct, and train less experienced technicians.

Working knowledge of the NEC and OSHA regulations. Advanced knowledge of wind/solar industry best practices and the ability to effectively coach, instruct, and train less experienced technicians.

Certifications

Ability to complete all required training upon hire.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

These conditions are applicable to all Renewable Energy Technician levels.

  • Field Work: Work is primarily conducted 100% in the renewable asset field for Techs 1-3. Tech 4 may spend approximately 20% of time in the office environment.
  • Work at Height: Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and structures to heights of over 300 feet (91 meters) and work at those heights and in confined spaces.
  • Conditions: Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain) and in an electrical-mechanical environment with high voltage/stored energy.
  • Lifting: Ability to regularly lift up to 35 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Safety Restriction (Wind only): Due to weight restrictions for fall-arrest equipment, the maximum employee weight must not exceed 285 lbs.
