Chief of Staff – NA Market Commercial Organization – Canada

18 Month Rotation Opportunity

Background:

The NA Market is the largest of the 10 Markets in the Commercial Organization and is comprised of U.S. and Canada. The NA Market organizations is seeking a Chief of Staff to support the Vice President & Managing Director (MD) of Canada. In this role, you will work side by side with the Canada MD and their direct staff to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness, and strategic alignment and integration of activities with all organizational functions across the Canada organization.

The Chief of Staff will contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas, provide highly innovative solutions, and lead large, cross-division functional teams or projects that affect the organization's long-term goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will also be able to provide mentoring and guidance to employees at all levels, as well as be able to develop strategy and sets policy and direction. The successful candidate will act as a functional manager but does not directly manager other employees as a primary job function.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day affairs of MD to alleviate and help solve problems without burdening the MD; handling many duties, all focused on making time, information, and decision processes more effective for the MD

  • Provides / ensures information arrives at the right point in MD decision-making process, and follow-up happens without MD having to check

  • Prepares prework, handles follow-up, and sits in on Country senior leadership meetings

  • Coordinates special projects and drafts presentations and other materials for meetings, and employee town halls, etc.

  • Define, drive and improve processes around recurring “rhythm of the business” initiatives: Staff Meetings, Quarterly Leadership off-sites, Strategic Planning and Budgeting

  • Ensure accountability across teams by making sure appropriate milestones and measurements are built into projects and initiatives

  • Manage executive communications; analyze, coordinate and improve communication efforts within the organization and externally

  • Develop strong internal partnerships with colleagues in Marketing, Finance, HR, Communications, etc. and identify opportunities for increased collaboration to impact business results

  • Drive key strategic projects as needed across a variety of topics and areas

  • Partner closely with HR to drive organizational culture and continuous improvement of employee engagement through roundtables, manager training, recognition, etc.

  • Develops recommendations from complex data and business analyses and formulates them into business plans.

  • Establishes the metrics required to measure business performance and recommend the go-forward.

  • Counsels business leaders, recommends approaches for executing high-level strategies and develops creative solutions.

  • Leads the development of project guidelines, objectives and deliverables. Provides thought leadership and contributes to expanding knowledge base in development of strategy and recommendations

  • Strategizes to address performance gaps and find innovative solutions to problems.

  • Responsible for setting, gaining alignment, and communicating the org strategy and priorities. Drives all aspects of priority projects and makes final team decisions

  • Partner with the leadership team to make proposals on the org priorities and investment decisions

  • Collaborates with across the business, functions, and regions to align strategy and direction with corporate and regional approaches and support.

Education and Experience Required:
Typically 8-10 years total experience in strategy, planning, operations, finance, or related functional area. Ideally 4-7 years post advanced degree experience leading projects. Advanced university degree required (e.g., MBA) or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian marketplace, channel, etc.

  • Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, analysis, and problem-solving skills

  • Extensive business acumen and technical knowledge to analyze business problems

  • Ability to communicate abstract ideas clearly and independently manage complex project objectives

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence

  • Advanced relationship management skills, including partnering and consulting.

  • Exceptional strategic and growth mindset with experience and know how to turn strategy into strong execution that drives proven results

  • Excellent project management skills, including leading large, cross-functional initiatives that impact the organization

  • Strong leadership skills, including team building, conflict resolution, and management

  • Ability to identify emerging trends from market and industry data, and make clear and compelling business planning recommendations

Compensation and Benefits
The typical base pay range for this role is $126,750 to $195,150 CAD annually. Pay within this range will be based on the review of experience, skills, and internal equity.
As a full time, employee of HP Canada, you will be eligible to participate in the company's group benefit programs, including medical, dental, life insurance, and disability coverage, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. During your employment term, you will receive 15 paid vacation days per year prorated based on your start date. Detailed information regarding benefits—will be provided upon hire and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
