Job Description

Salary: Entry rate of $17.04 to $20.87 per hour depending on experience

Reports To: Director of Safety and Security/Building Administration

Typical Work Schedule/Hours (May vary depending on location): This posting is for Francis Howell High


192 Day work calendar working an extended school year with Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks off

Monday � Friday
6:30 AM � 3:00 PM or 9:00 AM � 5:30 PM
Some nights may be required for events/student activities

To help maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. The security guard supports the school community by monitoring campus activity, responding to and reporting incidents, and reinforcing district policies and safety protocols.


Key Responsibilities


Campus Safety & Supervision:

  • Monitor entrances, hallways, cafeterias, parking lots, and school grounds.
  • Greet and check in visitors according to District procedures.
  • Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, and lunch.
  • Maintain a visible, approachable presence to deter unsafe or disruptive behavior.

Response & Communication:

  • Respond quickly and appropriately to altercations, disturbances, or emergencies.
  • Communicate clearly with administration, staff, and local authorities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and security-related activities.

Support & Partnership:

  • Collaborate with administrators and staff to uphold a safe and respectful environment.
  • Assist with safety drills and event security.
  • Promote positive relationships with students and serve as a role model.


Minimum Qualifications


Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.


Experience: Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a school environment preferred.


Skills: Strong communication, conflict de-escalation, and observation skills.


Knowledge: Familiarity with safety procedures, emergency response, and radio communication.


Abilities: Work effectively with students, remain calm under pressure, and adapt to a changing environment.

The Francis Howell R-III School District encompasses over 150 square miles in the southeast corner of St. Charles County and is one of the largest school districts in the State of Missouri. With an enrollment of nearly 18,000 students and approximately 2,300 employees, the Francis Howell Learning Community works every day to provide a consistent and comprehensive education that fosters high levels of academic achievement for all.

The history of the Francis Howell School District dates back to 1825. Through mergers, the District became the Consolidated School District No. 2 of St. Charles County in 1915. As a result of additional mergers, the District became the Francis Howell Reorganized #3 School District in 1951. The District serves portions of the municipalities of St. Charles, St. Peters, and O’Fallon, as well as Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie, Weldon Spring, New Melle, and unincorporated areas of St. Charles County.

The District’s educational facilities include ten elementary, five middle, and three high schools; three early childhood buildings; and two alternative education schools.
