Salary Range: $32.00 - $34.00 Hourly

Under the direction of the Director of Campus Safety and Security, the Campus Safety and Security Supervisor I supports the University's commitment to keeping a safe, secure, and crime-free environment through effective leadership, guard development, and the delivery of professional security services. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring Campus Safety guards, providing comprehensive training on departmental policies, procedures, and best practices, and fostering continuous professional growth to enhance individual performance and team effectiveness. This role also promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, and exceptional customer service while ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable safety standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSI­­BILITIES
- Supervise and lead Campus Safety guards and contractors by providing coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and professional development to ensure departmental goals and performance standards are achieved.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and improving Campus Safety and Security policies and procedures, and clearly communicate related updates and performance expectations to guards to ensure consistent compliance.
- Delegate assignments, monitor completion of operational tasks, and ensure compliance with departmental directives and established procedures.
- Ensure security personnel stay vigilant in protecting university property by preventing theft, vandalism, and other safety or security incidents.
- Conduct new hire onboarding, orientation, and training for new guards.
- Participate as a member of the management team by showing professionalism, exercising sound judgment, and providing leadership during routine operations and emergency situations.
- Oversee and participate in patrol operations across campus walkways, parking lots, administrative and academic buildings, and satellite locations to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Communicate operational concerns, incident trends, and recommend corrective actions to the Director of Campus Safety and Security.
- Serve as the on-scene field commander during major incidents, demonstrations, emergency responses, and special events in the absence of the Director of Campus Safety.
- Oversee post-incident reporting and documentation to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
- Coordinate security operations for campus events by managing event calendars, staffing assignments, logistical planning, and special event communications to ensure adequate security coverage.
- Maintain records documenting completion of training, certifications, and licensing, including expiration dates and renewal deadlines for all security personnel.
- Responsible for managing the university's emergency notification system, including contact information, messaging, and emergency response procedures.
- Lead routine testing and documentation of the emergency alarm and panic button systems across all campus locations to ensure operational readiness.
- Oversee the access control platform governing ID cards, access control, and parking facilities, delegating day-to-day administration to guards while retaining overall responsibility for the system.
- Maintain and update the Campus Safety department website and related digital resources to ensure current and accurate information.
- Thorough knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), including responsibility for the collection, classification, reporting, and maintenance of Annual Security Report (ASR) crime statistics in compliance with federal requirements.
- Provide backup shuttle service for students parked in the offsite lot, including coverage during the primary driver’s lunch break.
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable law enforcement practices and university safety protocols to support effective emergency response and operational decision-making.
- Perform field, administrative, and shift-based responsibilities, including nights, weekends, holidays, and other hours as needed to support departmental operations.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required; adhering to university attendance policy

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlooks) for reporting, scheduling, and email communications.
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Possession of California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) permits/certificates including guard card, firearms permit, pepper spray permit, and baton permit (straight, side-handle, and collapse)
- Successfully qualify with a service weapon per BSIS requirements.
- Current taser certification.
- Possess a current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications per American Heart Association guidelines (renew every two years)
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to build and sustain productive working relationships across diverse constituencies, while showing professionalism, cultural competence, discretion, and composure in diverse settings.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, manage multiple assignments, and consistently meet established deadlines.
- Capacity to respond constructively to feedback, adapt to changing priorities, and perform effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a campus public safety team.
- Commitment to the highest standards of integrity, ethical conduct, and professionalism, including compliance with applicable employment requirements, background investigation standards, and legal eligibility to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Requirement
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education public safety, campus security, or a related field, including prior supervisory or lead-level experience.
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, or relevant career experience
