Job Description

The Campus Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining campus grounds and building aesthetics, including routine inspections of landscaping, facilities, and common areas, while identifying safety or security issues and ensuring supplies are stocked. This position also maintains inventory records and updates databases (e.g., Safety, SDS) with accurate reporting, supports administrative functions and assists with sanitation and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance and service snow removal, lawn and garden equipment, as well as light truck and trailers.
  • Operate machinery such as forklifts, skid-loaders, movers, and snow removal equipment, troubleshoots and resolves equipment issues, as needed.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power tools, ensuring all equipment is safe, functional and regularly inspected or service as needed.
  • Provide assistance on maintenance for all plant beds, trees, and grasses.
  • Assist with department and event staff to plan and execute logistical support for campus.
  • Assist with hazardous waste removal, meeting room set up, ordering supplies and stocking conference rooms.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors, contractors, and customers to ensure alignment with campus goals and standards.
  • Identify and assist in implementing strategies to reduce maintenance expenses without compromising quality.
  • Assist with campus projects, including new construction and remodeling.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent with 5-10 years of related experience OR
    • Bachelors Degree in Horticulture with 2-5 years of related experience
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Safety, OSHA, First Aid, CPR, and AED training preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • General building repair and maintenance knowledge.
  • Lawn care, tree knowledge, and snowplow equipment operation and repair experience is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office experience.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
