The Campus & Event Safety/Security Officer provides a multitude of services that provides a safe and secure environment for the university community both on a day-to-day basis as well as for events happening throughout campus. This position also plays a key role in establishing and strengthening relationships with on campus and off campus stakeholders through providing exemplary customer service.

Position Overview
This position oversees and implements university safety and security policies to create a safe and secure environment for the university community both day-to-day and during event operations. This position also plays a key role in establishing and strengthening relationships with on-campus and off-campus stakeholders through providing exemplary customer service.

This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:
  • Conduct general security patrol on campus and at events and report emergencies to university, city or state officials
  • Assist with Safe Walks, extra patrol requests, building lockouts and on-call notifications
  • Enforce university alcohol policies
  • Monitor access control, check credentials, check tickets and enforce clear bag requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Using computer software and applications including word-processing software, spreadsheets, email and internet
  • Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals
  • Following documented policies and procedures

Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Other
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work a non-standard schedule to meet the needs of the department
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles


Additional Preferred
  • Knowledge of safety and security operations and best practices
  • One year experience as a safety/security officer
  • Demonstrated competence with written and verbal communication

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Must be able to:
    • Move around and between venues throughout the workday
    • Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 40 pounds occasionally
    • Bend, stoop, shovel and be comfortable working at significant heights
    • Traverse any part of campus including asphalt, sidewalks, grass, dirt, playgrounds, etc.
    • Sit and stand for extended periods of time
    • Work in inclement weather conditions
