Job Description

$525/ week and free camp

  • Free week of camp for every week they work as Nurse
  • For all immediate family members/dependents (up to 3 dependents)

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Camp Nurse is responsible for evaluating the health needs of the campers and staff. Nurses must be able to organize medication distribution and make sure that paperwork corresponds. Camp nurses are also responsible for the evaluation of injuries and providing appropriate care when needed. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester is conveyed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Operate Health Center and oversee health and safety of camper and staff

· Responsible for the supervision of campers and staff within the infirmary.

· Treat illness and injuries and administer medications as necessary.

· Keep accurate, detailed records of incident reports and other necessary documentation.

· Act as a liaison to parents, staff and health providers

· Process all medications and related supplies

· Is familiar with and carries out emergency procedures, building rules and regulations.

· Attend all required trainings and meetings.

· All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

· Must be at least 21 years of age.

· Current NYS Nursing Certification (RN or LPN)

· Must have experience working in a camp and working with children.

· Possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

· Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required; certifications must be valid/current before the first day of staff training and throughout the duration of your seasonal employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another.
  • Ability to visibly observe children.
  • Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.
  • Ability to stand and move around camp for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
