Accountabilities:

  • Implement the day-to-day operations of the program, which includes (but is not limited to) recreational games, crafts, Bible lessons, and other scheduled events.

  • Supervise and interact with and support all day camp campers.

  • Work cooperatively with the Business Manager and Community services coordinator and Directors, in all aspects of the summer day camp program

  • Participate in the Summer Day Camp mentoring program for Day Camp staff and campers. Perform other relevant duties as assigned, i.e., set-up, and camp cleanup.

  • Ensure the highest standard of health and safety for all campers, volunteers, and staff.

  • Assist with ensuring the emotional wellness and personal development of campers.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Support campers to develop socially, mentally, and spiritually.

  • Know and act in accordance with policies and procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.

  • Act in cases of urgency or emergency in alignment with camp policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week for a 2 week period.

  • Will be required to complete The Salvation Army Camp Training.

  • Working environment is in a day camp setting both indoor and outdoor in generally agreeable conditions with the following exceptions, exposure to tantrums and noise.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 29 lbs.

  • This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.

Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Some flexibility in scheduling is required. The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed a minimum of Nine (9).

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Must have excellent written, verbal skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and use initiative.

  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
