POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Camp Countryside seeks to build positive character into the youth we serve through our core values of Caring, Responsibility, Respect, Honesty and Faith. Under the director supervision of the Camp Director, the Camp Coordinator will provide daily leadership, guidance and supervision for their camp counselors and designated camps with the end goal of helping develop the mind, body and spirit as outlined in our Mission Statement.
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 20 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have prior experience working with children. 3+ years of camp experience preferred, residential or day camp. CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff.
- Oversees facilitation and planning of the daily program including activities, schedules, field trips, etc.
- Supports counselors in delivering daily activities for designated camps.
- Assists in interviewing, training, supervising and evaluating camp counselors.
- Supports Camp Director in maintaining ACA Accreditation
- Understands and enforces all emergency procedures and YMCA policies
- Supports counselors with behavioral issues as they arise.
- Consistently and fairly enforces the discipline policy using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Attends staff meetings and in-services as designated at set times
- Contributes to maintaining an atmosphere of safety and cleanliness for staff and campers.
- Follows all safety and risk management procedures reporting any safety issues to your supervisor
- Additional duties may be assigned as dictated by business needs

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Should be available to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
- Ability to work well with others; take guidance and direction; be enthusiastic, patient, and flexible
- Must be able to plan and execute programming and properly supervise and evaluate counselors
- Must have strong organizational, planning and decision making skills
- Must possess a strong sincere desire to work towards the positive development and growth of children
- Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
- Ability to perform basic first-aid and safety within YMCA protocol
- Understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to Y character development
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time in a variety of settings and weather conditions
- Must be able to traverse various terrains and assist campers in moving from station to station
- Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
- Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
- Must have visual acuity to observe and account for all children
- Physical ability to render first aid and assist campers in the event of an emergency (i.e. fire, evacuation, illness or injury)
