Huawei 2012 Labs Finland is seeking a Camera Optical Design Engineer to join our Camera Module Hardware team in Tampere. We are a cross-functional R&D team developing next-generation camera modules for Huawei flagship smartphones, operating at the forefront of miniaturized imaging system design.
In this role, you will design and deliver high-performance optical systems for compact camera modules - from early concept to a functional prototype- working closely with optomechanical, electrical, and algorithms specialists.
Design optical systems for miniaturized camera modules targeting flagship smartphone performance requirements
Execute optical performance analysis including MTF optimization, tolerance analysis, and desensitization
Translate optical designs into manufacturable solutions in close collaboration with globally distributed, multidisciplinary partner teams
Analyze metrology reports and drive corrective design actions based on measurement results
Research emerging optical technologies and assess their applicability to next-generation camera module designs
Qualifications and detailed requirements:
MSc or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or other relevant field
Hands-on experience with lens design for Consumer Electronics imaging products, preferably with smartphones
Proficiency with lens design and ray tracing tools (e.g., Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, CodeV)
Design for Manufacturing (DFM) experience for high-volume production preferable
Experienced with Lens Design Optimization for AF/OIS actuators
Working knowledge of lens-sensor integration constraints (CRA matching to sensor micro-lens array, BFL/FFL, packaging envelope)
Experienced with miniaturization techniques applied to imaging optics (e.g., folded optics, periscope architectures)
Proficiency in simulation and optimization techniques (e.g., desensitization, tolerancing, stray light analysis)
Proven adaptability in dynamic business conditions - self-driven, self-directed, and proactive in taking initiative and ownership with minimal supervision
Strong documentation discipline - ability to produce unambiguous technical reports, specification documents, and design review materials with minimal supervision
Effective communication skills at both engineering and executive levels
Ability to cooperate and work effectively in distributed team settings across time zones and organizational boundaries
Nice to have Skills:
Hands-on experience with optical metrology tools (MTF bench, interferometer, wavefront sensor)
Understanding of computational imaging principles and co-design of optics with ISP/post-processing pipelines
Contract Type This is a full-time consultant position, the consultant shall be employed by Huawei's supplier.
