Artistic Support
Full-Time Position
 
 
We are looking for our next Calling Stage Manager to join our VStar Entertainment Group Touring Artistic team. The main objective of this role is to be responsible for all activities within the touring shows to ensure smooth and consistent performances of the show as produced, and to supervise, coach, and lead all cast members in their daily work.
 
 
The Calling Stage Manager will have the opportunity to:
  • Provides direct supervision to Artists by working with performers on a continual basis by conducting blocking, cleaning rehearsals, and notes sessions;
  • Responsible for the overall quality of the show while on the road, including Artists, sets, costumes, lighting, sound, etc. This includes approved implementation of the different staging required for upsize, downsize, and audience access versions of show products including contingency shows in case of illness or injury;
  • Calling all technical show cues before and during the show;
  • Create a prompt script compiled with fly rail and deck cues and requirements for props, lighting, and sound;
  • Ensure the show is presented as originally produced.  Any changes in staging, choreography, or any technical aspects of the show (with the exception of immediate safety concerns) must be authorized in advance by the Artistic Department.  Notifies each department head the changes of re-block situations or implementation of backup acts. Documents any changes for archival purposes;
  • Participate in pre-production and rehearsals, being responsible for tracking all stage cues, choreography, and staging changes;
  • Provide direction to each tour department, via the Production Manager, in regard to the condition of their equipment and the execution of their department’s performance during shows. The Production Manager, and the Calling Stage Manager will work together to coordinate the performance of the show, as well as the safety of all staff and patrons;
  • Independently prepare for each different venue to ensure show quality and safety. Independently perform safety checks, review past show reports to identify any problems with building layout, and attend load-in if necessary;
  • Arrange for any necessary rehearsals, including aerial validations, for each venue;
  • Report to the Artistic Department as to the ongoing look of the show, and submit a Performance Report for each venue. Periodically film the show and submit to the Artistic Department (camera provided);
  • Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
  • Uphold responsibility for own professional standards of conduct, appearance, workmanship, and personal safety as set forth by VStar Entertainment with fellow tour members, outside vendors, local labor, and clients;
  • Perform all other work-related tasks and projects as assigned by management;
 
 
  What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:
  • A thorough understanding of large-scale theatrical and/or arena show operations, related experience with other traveling family entertainment shows, or strong stage management background;
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or four+ years related experience or equivalent combination of training, education and or experience;
  • Comfort working in /problem solving /communicating in an international environment where english may not be an Artist's first language;
  • Previous experience as a Stage Manager;
  • Experience with Aerialists or a circus environment preferred;
  • Familiarity with sheet music and comfort calling cues from music tracks;
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
  • If applicable for the tours travel schedule must be and remain in good standing with all proper authorities throughout the Services Period, including maintaining the validity of one’s passport and the ability to travel internationally;
  • Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization;
  • Able to pass a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education, and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law;
