Job Description

Reporting directly to senior claims leadership, this position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and overall performance of a workers’ compensation claims unit consisting of Claims Specialists and Claims Assistants. The role includes coaching and mentoring staff, monitoring claim handling quality and compliance, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing corrective action when necessary. This individual will ensure claims are managed in accordance with applicable regulations, internal standards, and client service expectations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the performance and productivity of assigned claims staff.
  • Complete performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Maintain authority for claim approvals within assigned financial limits.
  • Monitor selected claim files, including:
    • High exposure claims
    • Subrogation matters
    • Delayed or denied benefit files
    • SIU-referred claims
    • Coverage dispute files
  • Ensure claims are handled in compliance with applicable workers’ compensation laws and company guidelines.
  • Prepare and provide reports, records, and claim information as required by clients or service agreements.
  • Address personnel matters promptly and communicate significant developments to leadership.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across departments.
  • Identify and develop backup leadership within the team.
  • Conduct regular claim audits to evaluate file quality, compliance, and overall claim handling effectiveness.
  • Assist with additional projects and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

To perform successfully in this role, candidates should demonstrate strong leadership, technical claims expertise, and sound decision-making abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive workers’ compensation claims experience.
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of California workers’ compensation laws and claims handling practices.
  • Experience managing complex claims and negotiating settlements.
  • Ability to provide guidance on technical claim matters and improve team performance.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $100,000 – $110,000 annually

Actual compensation may vary based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and overall skill set.
