Calcine Packaging and Shipping Lead Operator
Receives instructions from Packing & Shipping Supervisor and/or Packing & Shipping Coordinator and performs job duties in accordance with established work procedures and instructions.
2. Ensures bagging and loading process is operated according to Work Instructions to include:
Assisting operators in determining operating condition of bagging and loading process equipment.
Assisting operators in performing the bagging process
3. Operates automated small bag stacking equipment and auxiliary equipment which includes setup, startup/shutdown, and trouble shooting problematic issues.
4. Ensures the repair of process equipment through the use of work order requests generated in appropriate database.
5. Loads containers/vans for shipment of finished product.
6. Monitors packing & shipping operation during the shift to ensure operators are performing work in a safe manner with all safety guidelines being followed. Reports any noncompliance to P&S Supervisor.
7. Records process information on operator reports and computer spreadsheets.
8. Gathers product lot samples from bagging operators and delivers samples to QA lab for testing. If product is out of specification, gathers another samples for testing.
9. Labels all finished product orders in preparation of loading/shipping to customer.
10. Safely offload hydrous or calcine PD cars into the appropriate designated slot.
11. Safe operation of the ACM Mill pulverizer.
12. Conducts Area Shift Inspections.
13. Conducts equipment/forklift inspections.
14. Maintains a clean and safe work area.
15. Follows all IMERYS safety procedures to include Railroad safety rules and guidelines.
16. Wears appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) and any additional safety protection equipment required while performing work tasks.
17. Performs other duties assigned by P&S Supervisor, P&S Coordinator, or designee.
Environmental, Safety, & Health Responsibilities:
Wear appropriate personal safety protection, follows prescribed procedures and maintains clean and safe work area.
Follow all Environmental, Health, Safety policies to include but not limited to Confined Space Entry, Lock-Out Tag-Out, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Machine Guarding/Conveyer Safety, Mobile Equipment Safety, Housekeeping, Fatigue Management. Reference Imerys Kaolin Safety & Health Manual.
Quality Duties & Responsibilities:

3. Reports to supervisor, takes corrective action, and alerts the appropriate person(s) when quality standards are not met and are outside of this position's control.

Measurements Performed/Tools & Gauges: Bag weight/scales
Machines & Equipment Involved: Forklift, big bagger, small bagger, sparger railcars, robotic sstacking equipment, computer
Working Conditions: Requires rotating shift work and some overtime. Works mostly in plant environment and in and around railcar track area. Duties split between indoor and outdoor work causing exposure to seasonal temperature variations. Requires climbing to heights of 50 feet, works around moving machinery and on slippery surfaces. Exposed to noise >85 dB, fumes, chemicals, and allergens.
D. QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Able to read, write, and do basic math at high school or equivalent level.
Experience - (Preferred Background): Previous work as a big bag operator, small bag operator, bulk load operator. Qualified trainer will teach lead operator operating procedures and work instructions.
Skills Requirement: Able to understand written and verbal instructions and listen attentively; clearly describe conditions orally or in writing; provide leadership and gain cooperation; understand, compare, and analyze instrument and chart readings; analyze and resolve minor process problems; set-up, manipulate and tend equipment and/or machinery; operate computer, operate motorized vehicles; have a valid driver's permit.
Required Activities: The operator will constantly be required to stand, walk and handle objects. Climbing is required when getting into the forklift and when loading trucks. This position is performed at a constant pace, in some instances a rapid pace will be required. The majority of the time the pace in moderate. Occasionally some lifting takes place, up to 55 lbs. Good balance may be required due to slippery conditions in the bag house and railcar track area. Good dexterity is also needed in order to properly hook and close big bags. Constant communication with upper levels of management is also required.
