About the Role

The primary purpose of the Cafeteria Cashier position is to provide routine retail cashiering services for cash and charge sales within the guidelines set by the Department with extreme emphasis on customer service, speed of service and accuracy. General assistance in the Cafeteria, Catering and Food and Nutrition Department as the business demands including duties of a Food Service Associate.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Provides patient‑centered service, creating a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment while maintaining professionalism and composure.
  • Communicates clearly, responds promptly to concerns, and works collaboratively to meet or exceed customer service targets.
  • Demonstrates respect for patient rights and serves as a role model for Service Excellence.
  • Ensures accurate cash handling, including proper operation of NJ Lottery transactions.
  • Maintains sanitation standards, responds to sanitation needs, and manages unit sanitation stock.
  • Adheres to all standards, specifications, and Retail venue skill requirements, able to work in any cash‑handling retail area.
  • Follows University Hospital compliance standards, regulations, policies, and stays current as they change.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate is required.
  • One (1) year of cash/charge handling experience required. Customer service and hospitality-oriented focus.
  • Ability to handle cash and operate cash register. Knowledge of simple math and basic adding machine procedures.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English fluently enough to perform the duties of the position. Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet standards and time demands.

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $19.27 - $20.36.
