Job Title: Café Team Member

Based in: Luminary Bakery 71-73 Allen Road, Stoke Newington, London, N16 8RY

Reports to: Café Manager

Hours: Part Time / Full Time

Salary: £13.00 per hour

Job Purpose: To provide excellent customer service across the week through delivering high quality coffee and delicious in-house made baked goods.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

CAFÉ TEAM MEMBER ROLE SPECIFICATION:

  • Willing to develop to Barista level
  • Food preparation
  • Consistently providing a high quality of service and products for all customers by closely following café recipes and procedures
  • £13.00 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer Service & Experience
    • Be the friendly face of our café—always greet customers with a smile.
    • Welcome and connect with every customer, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
    • Provide excellent customer service by being approachable, attentive, and helpful.
    • Maintain a calm and positive attitude, even during busy periods.
    • Assist customers with their choices by sharing knowledge of food and drinks.
    • Respond to customer needs, including explaining any service delays.
    • Go the extra mile to exceed customer expectations.
    Food & Beverage Preparation
    • Assist in preparing a variety of food, snacks, and drinks to high-quality standards.
    • Ensure food presentation is attractive and meets our quality expectations.
    • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all food preparation and service areas.
    • Strictly follow health, safety, and food hygiene regulations.
    Café Operations & Efficiency
    • Keep service counters well-stocked, clean, and organized.
    • Ensure the café floor, service area, and stockroom are always tidy and efficient.
    • Follow café policies for merchandising, ordering, restocking, rotating, and storing products.
    • Assist with general cleaning duties in all areas of operation.
    • Work efficiently as part of a team to maintain smooth service, especially during peak hours.
    • Be willing to undertake back-of-house tasks at the request of the Café Manager.
    Sales & Stock Handling
    • Accurately process transactions when required.
    • Assist with restocking café supplies and maintaining inventory levels.
    • Actively engage with customers to promote sales and new menu items.
    Opening, Closing & Safety Procedures
    • Learn and confidently perform opening and closing duties.
    • Adhere to all health and safety procedures, both when supervised and when working independently in the Café Manager’s absence.
    • Ensure compliance with risk assessments and hygiene protocols.



JOB REQUIREMENTS:

NECESSARY:

  • At least 1 year's serving experience in a cafe or restaurant
  • Strong hospitality and customer service skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude and proactive approach in the workplace
  • Committed to delivering great customer experience
  • Willingness to switch between roles including food prep, cleaning, till service, and drinks
  • Open to work weekends and be flexible with changing schedules
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude and uphold high standards
  • Desire to contribute to the café’s growth and success
