Job Description

TITLE: Café Line Cook DEPARTMENT: Café

STATUS: PT/FT, Journeyperson, Union, Hourly REPORTS TO: Café Manager

To ensure the highest level of service possible to Outpost’s internal and external customers. To produce the highest quality of healthy, tasteful, and natural products while adhering to sanitation and production standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Fast paced kitchen and retail floor. Work near moving mechanical parts (i.e. blenders, ovens, etc.) and in cold/hot climate conditions (i.e. cooler or near stove). Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to: computers, paging, telephones, human voices, and machinery. Position requires working during busy retail times, which include weekends, afternoons, and evenings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Customer Service
a. Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
b. Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
2. Café Department Responsibilities
Department Operations
a. Ensure customers are all greeted and assisted in timely manner.
b. Prepare customer’s entrees in a timely manner and have what they need to enjoy their dining experience.
c. Prep ingredients to ensure fully stocked and prepared kitchen.
d. Practice established safety and sanitation procedures for food handling and preparation.
e. Follow all recipes accurately and in accordance with established production guidelines.
f. Complete all assigned production tasks in a timely manner.
g. Keep work space neat and sanitary. Follow proper procedures in cleaning kitchen at end of shift.
h. Follow established, storage, handling and labeling procedures and guidelines.
i. Handle customer questions and complaints.
j. Follow safety guidelines in regards to lifting, knife handling, equipment operation, etc.
k. Follow proper procedures in opening, closing, and maintaining all café areas.
l. Order product from vendors and central kitchen to ensure department if fully stocked, while keeping inventory to a minimum.
m. Receive and stock orders. Check condition of product and invoice accuracy for all deliveries. Ensure correct product rotation.
n. Assist in inventory control including: accurate recording of losses, markdowns, and transfers.
o. Maintain a clean and organized backstock area remembering to rotate.
p. Advise café manager of equipment repair/replacement needs.
q. Backup café counter staff when needed and perform all duties included on café counter staff job description.
r. Attend department meetings as scheduled.
s. Perform all duties included in department clerk job descriptions.
Personnel
a. Delegate duties to café staff and ensure they are always busy.
b. Positively encourage department staff to excel at their job.
c. Replace vacant shifts when call ins, etc. occur. Notify manager of these occurrences.
d. Assist in training department staff.
e. Assist café staff in following department standard operating procedures.
3. All Staff Duties
a. Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents.
b. Keep store orderly and clean.
c. Maintain a positive attitude.
d. Perform all other duties as assigned by department manager or supervisory staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
• Outstanding customer service skills
• Previous cooking experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to adhere to sanitation and production guidelines
• A displayed skill in the use of a knife
• Attention to detail and good organizational skills
• Ability to handle multiple demands and work under time pressures

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Standing, walking, bending, reaching
• Using hands or fingers to handle or feel
• Specific vision ability: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and adjust focus
• Regular use of sharp cutting instruments
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
