Job Description

  • Under immediate supervision, develop necessary skills and qualifications to successfully meet Boston EMS EMT hiring pre-requisites for the position of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).  
  • Participate in and pass the Boston EMS emergency medical technician training program for the purpose of securing EMT certification, a pre-requisite for employment as an EMT. Participate in other training as directed.  
  • Attend daily fitness training to prepare for the physical demands associated with the provision of emergency medical services.  
  • Regular assignments in ambulances, serving as an observer to learn from interactions with partners, scene management, coordination, communication and patient care. May be asked to assist with carrying equipment, vital signs and psychomotor tasks. Responsibilities will not include patient assessment, care or carrying.  
  • Assignments in Boston EMS dispatch operations, administration and support services. May be tasked with non-operational duties, such as filing, sorting, organizing materials, stocking supplies, cleaning ambulances, or observing 
  • May be assigned to community events or special events to support the department, recruitment or public engagement.  
  • Working to help BPHC advance as an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by the BPHC Anti-Racism Policy.  
  • Performs other duties as required 
Qualifications
  • Current and valid class 3 driver’s license.  
  • Carry more than 20 lbs of equipment while walking, climbing and descending stairs, or traversing difficult terrain  
  • Promote health equity, inclusion, and diversity within the BPHC, department, and community. 
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.
