Job Description

At Johnson Controls, you will support the design of fire alarm systems that help protect people, property, and critical spaces. You will work with a collaborative team focused on accurate documentation, dependable delivery, and strong customer outcomes.

In this role, you will provide CAD drafting and design support for the design department. You will prepare technical drawings and documentation for fire alarm system installations using provided tools and libraries, helping ensure project information is clear, organized, and ready for internal use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide CAD drafting and design support for the design department.
  • Prepare technical drawings and documentation for fire alarm system installations using provided tools and libraries.
  • Work with a designer to prepare CAD drawings based on project requirements.
  • Prepare floorplans, calculations, details, and other diagrams as needed.
  • Support internal customers by addressing questions and other support requests.
  • Interact with team members to accomplish tasks, achieve common goals, solve problems, resolve conflicts, and measure achievements.
  • Use department processes and goals when planning self-directed work activities.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time.

How You Will Do It

  • Partner closely with designers to translate project requirements into accurate CAD work that supports the full design process.
  • Take ownership of your assignments, follow department processes, and keep work aligned with project priorities and deadlines.
  • Stay close to the details, ask clear questions, and remove obstacles early so internal customers get timely support.
  • Work as one team with designers, peers, and stakeholders by communicating openly, solving problems respectfully, and supporting shared goals.
  • Look for ways to improve your work every day through accuracy, candor, and practical problem-solving.
  • Handle administrative tasks with care and consistency so drawings, documentation, and handoffs remain reliable.

Qualifications

  • Skilled in use of AutoCAD versions 2018 and higher.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Site (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work with direction, independently, or as a member of a team.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple assignments and responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Effective and professional communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with internal customers.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of fire alarm and security system principles.
  • Basic knowledge of low voltage electrical system schematics and diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of REVIT/BIM.
  • Knowledge of Simplex fire systems.
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26.54 - $39.81 Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
