Job Description

The Sr. CAD Designer S&K Design Build LLC will perform CAD work efficiently and effectively to meet project deadlines. They will manage resources and workflow for the Engineering Manager to include leading activities in support of project estimates, project deliverables, proposals, Internal Research and Development (IRAD), and other product support activities. The Sr. CAD Designer will allocate the proper resources to provide design and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD or other drawing tools in order to support the projects when developing bids, proposals, and other project details for internal and customer projects. The Sr. CAD Designer will be a team player and have good communication skills, organizational skills, and be proficient in managing resources and time They should be capable of working with minimal oversight but willing to follow directions and adhere to construction industry standards while meeting critical deadlines.

Design and Business Support

  • Review regularly with the Engineering Manager, Pre-Construction Manager, or Operations Manager any updates and changes to the workflow schedule.
  • Maintain workflow criteria, resources, and deadlines.
  • Assist CAD Designers in acquiring all the necessary tools and resources to meet critical project deadlines.
  • Assist in the mentoring and training of new engineering department employees.
  • Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications
  • Produce CAD drawings for new or improved products using industry, departmental and discipline standards.
  • Work with other teams to obtain reference information for drawings.
  • Work with project teams to execute projects on time and on budget.
  • Review design layouts to find and resolve problems involving compatibility with basic design concepts for structures, materials, finishes, etc.
  • Work with engineering and manufacturing team to investigate and resolve problems with existing designs.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews to evaluate design concepts and make recommendations.
  • Read and understand 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Make corrections/redlines to the drawings as requested by the senior staff.
  • Provide alternative design concepts to meet customer requirements.
  • Create, maintain, and update a database of design records for future reference purposes and reuse.

  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program
  • Attend daily and weekly on-site field safety briefings
  • Support safety meetings, training sessions, and inspections as required
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner without intentional or unintentional risks for injuring oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others
  • Cooperate with safety personnel, supervisors, managers, and investigators to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company and customer’s safety policies.
  • Identify and report safety violations to safety personnel, supervisors, managers.

Teamwork

  • Participating as a vital crew member and contribute towards the success of the project and the organization
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas for project success and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with other company personnel to meet organizational and project deadlines, metrics, and mission objectives.

Reporting

  • Perform timecard updates daily and sign timecards weekly to support reporting and payroll activities
  • Perform job related reporting requirements per contract and corporate policies.

Education

  • High school diploma/GED and a Technical degree or associate’s degree
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in auto-CAD/engineering (preferred)

Experience

  • Five years of design experience using SolidWorks or AutoCAD AND Experience producing electrical, construction, and tower design drawings OR
  • Two years (2) of design experience producing electrical, construction, and tower design drawings

License, Cert or Registration

  • Current unencumbered and clean driver’s license
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship due to sensitivity of contract work

Special knowledge, skills, & abilities

  • Knowledge of structural design, engineering, and construction practices
  • Knowledge of proper use of office equipment
  • Ability to learn and retain task assignments with supervision
  • Experience reading and understanding drawings, job specifications, project schedules, quality control requirements, etc.
  • Work schedule may require availability on weekends, holidays and overnights as determined by the needs of the business;
  • Experience using the features and advanced tools within AutoCAD (essential), Solid Works (preferred), or comparable CAD application
  • Operating experience of Microsoft Project and other office product software
  • Experience in construction, telecommunications, solar or mining industries is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check and drug screening
