Cable Technician

Location: Dayton, OH

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Job Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site

About the Opportunity

We are looking for motivated technicians with structured cabling and termination experience who want to grow their careers in the telecommunications and low-voltage industry.

This role offers the opportunity to work on commercial and healthcare projects while gaining exposure to network infrastructure, security technologies, and long-term career growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Install cable as directed by Senior Installers and according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Pull, route, terminate, and dress Cat5 and Cat6 cabling.
  • Meet or exceed project production goals and deadlines.
  • Follow the "Do It Right The First Time" (DIRTFT) philosophy.
  • Assist with installation of support structures including j-hooks, racks, cabinets, and cable pathways.
  • Help install and support IT network hardware, including servers and network racks.
  • Perform maintenance, wiring, cabling, and related low-voltage work in commercial and healthcare environments.
  • Utilize hand tools such as punch-down tools, snips, wire strippers, and other installation equipment.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by project leadership.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and strong attendance record.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in structured cabling or low-voltage installation.
  • Experience terminating Cat5/Cat6 cabling.
  • Ability to read and follow installation guidelines and instructions.
  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  • Must provide own basic hand tools.
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, initiative, and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fiber optic installation or termination experience.
  • Experience working in healthcare, hospital, or commercial construction environments.
  • Interest in learning new technologies and security systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and responsibilities.

Safety Requirements

Safety is a top priority. Technicians must:

  • Adhere to all Jacobs Telephone Contractors safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow customer-specific safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a strong safety-first mindset on every jobsite.
  • Wear required PPE, including a hard hat and safety glasses.
  • Comply with all attendance and workplace policies.

  • Commercial and healthcare facilities throughout the Dayton area.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dayton, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
