The essential job responsibilities of the Cable Splicer Helper is to prepare for entry into the Electric Distribution Cable Splicer Apprenticeship Program by recieving on-the-job experience gained by performing manual duties associated with the construction and maintenance of underground electrical facilities. Employees selected for this position must progress to Apprentice Cable Splicer Program in six (6) months after entering this classification or be moved.
To perform the Cable Splicer Helper role, you must:
-Pass annual physical examination as required by TOSHA- Tennessee Occupational Safety and Healthy Act.
-Have successfully completed an approved Electric Utility Construction Course to include Basic Electricity and Pole Climbing
-Have a valid driver's license from state of residence
-Obtain a valid Class A Commercial driver's license from state or residence within trial or probationary period after entering classification
-Successfully complete Placement/Performance Exercises and Physical Abilities test
Physical Working Conditions: Works outside. Subject to weather, traffic, working in proximity of high voltages and hazards of construction work. Subject to storm or emergency work, climbing, balancing, kneeling, bending, pulling, pushing, standing, reaching, and heavy lifting/carrying. Must wear a respirator when working with asbestos.

Electricity is supplied to MLGW by the Tennessee Valley Authority, while natural gas is purchased from a variety of suppliers and transported by three pipeline companies — Texas Gas Transmission Corporation, Trunkline Gas Company and ANR Pipeline Company. Memphis receives its water from one of the largest artesian water systems in the world.
MLGW is led by a president and a five-member board of commissioners who are appointed by the mayor of Memphis and approved by the Memphis City Council.
