Are you ready to kickstart a career in the energy network industry?

We’re looking for a motivated Trainee Cable Jointer to join our Auckland Energy & Utilities team. This is a hands-on opportunity to learn the specialist trade of LV and HV cable jointing while working towards recognised industry qualifications.

You’ll work alongside experienced Cable Jointers, supporting installation, maintenance and fault response activities across Auckland’s underground electricity network.

Over time, you’ll build capability in:

  • LV and HV cable jointing techniques
  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of underground cables
  • Fault finding and network restoration work
  • Safe use of tools, plant, and specialised jointing equipment
  • Identifying hazards and applying effective risk controls


This is a practical, field-based role where teamwork, reliability, and a strong commitment to safety are essential.

With a strong interest in the energy, electrical or utilities sector, you’ll be someone who:

  • Enjoys hands-on, physical outdoor work
  • Has a great attitude, reliability and willingness to learn
  • Is committed to working safely and looking out for others
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Holds a full Class 1 driver licence (or are working towards it)
  • Holds pre-trade electrical study or relevant experience (beneficial)
  • Has open-working rights in New Zealand


Applicants should be prepared to commit to a 2-year training schedule with occasional night, weekend and away work. This is a great opportunity to earn, while gaining qualifications in a sought-after trade.
