Position: Class 1 Drivers, HR, HC, MC

Reports to: Operations Manager – Class 1

Roster(including hours): 12:2, 7:7 or 11:3 - Family friendly hours are negotiable.

Primary Purpose

The Class 1 Driver has critical responsibility for the controlled transport of explosive materials within mining and resources environments, operating under heightened regulatory, safety, and security expectations. The position supports safe production activities by ensuring that explosives are transported, handled, and delivered in a manner that is fully compliant, traceable, and secure at all times.

This role actively contributes to the organisation’s Zero Harm objectives, regulatory compliance framework, and duty of care obligations by exercising sound judgement, high-accountability, maintaining situational awareness, and immediately responding to security, safety, or compliance risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safe and lawful transport of materials in accordance with applicable explosives, dangerous goods, transport legislation and customer requirements.
  • Strict Chain of Responsibility compliance, including fitness for duty, fatigue management, speed, load security, route adherence, and vehicle condition
  • Security of consignments, including access control, vehicle security, monitoring, and reporting of any irregularities or incidents
  • Compliance with mine site procedures, exclusion zones, and site access requirements
  • Protection of people, infrastructure, and the environment through disciplined driving behaviour and proactive risk management

Accurate documentation, communication, and handover in line with regulatory, audit and customer requirements.

Qualifications & Licences

  • Unrestricted Heavy Vehicle driver’s licence (e.g. HR, HC, or MC)
  • Current Dangerous Goods / Explosives Driver accreditation as required by state and territory legislation (desirable) or ability to obtain one.
  • 3 years road train experience Preferred
  • Current and valid Class 1 Explosive Driver qualification (authorised to transport explosives in accordance with applicable legislation) (desirable)
  • A positive attitude towards the transport industry.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated experience operating heavy vehicles (transporting explosives within mining, resources, or industrial environments desirable)
  • Proven understanding and application of explosives transport requirements, including load security, route compliance, and segregation controls
  • Practical experience working under Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, including fatigue management, speed compliance, vehicle condition, and fitness for duty.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of security awareness, including protection of consignments, vehicle security, and access control.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working on remote or regional mine sites
  • Experience transporting explosives to magazines, blast sites, and operational areas
  • Experience participating in audits, inspections, or regulator interactions related to explosives or dangerous goods transport
  • Exposure to high-security or high-risk transport operations (e.g. sensitive or controlled cargo)
