We’re looking for a C++ Software Engineer Co-op to join our world-class paid internship experience. The start date is May 2027 (8-month term) based out of our office in Burnaby, reporting to the Development Director. We are considering hybrid (3-days per week) and onsite flexible work options.

Responsibilities

  • You will work with the game’s UI tech stack.
  • You will get to design, implement, debug and maintain code for game features and/or components.
  • You will communicate with engineers from across the company to deliver the next generation of online features for both established and not-yet-released games.
  • You will collaborate with different teams of technical and non-technical game developers, locally and remotely.

Requirements

We encourage candidates from all backgrounds who meet the core requirements to apply, even if you do not meet every qualification.

  • You must be legally authorized to work in Canada for the entire internship - visa sponsorship is not available.
  • You must be enrolled in an accredited degree program and return to school for at least one semester following your internship with EA.
  • You must be graduating in May 2028 or later, including the time needed to complete your internship.
  • Relocation support may be available if you meet specific eligibility criteria.

Education & Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Entry-level experience; prior internship, coursework, or relevant personal or academic projects.

Qualifications

Required Technical Qualifications

  • C++ Programming Knowledge: Solid foundational understanding of modern C++ (object-oriented design, memory management, pointers/references, standard library data structures, and algorithms).
  • Code Hygiene & Build Discipline: Understanding of standard code formatting, syntax conventions, and the importance of build stability ("avoid/prevent breaking the main build").
  • Basic Problem Solving & Debugging: Ability to systematically trace logic errors, inspect variable states, and leverage standard IDE debugging tools.

Desired Qualifications (Aligned with Associate SE Baseline)

  • Local Testing Awareness: Conceptual understanding of unit testing, integration tests, and local functional verification before submitting code.
  • Source Control Familiarity: Basic hands-on experience with version control systems (Git or Perforce).
  • Game Development Engagement: Hands-on personal projects, academic game projects, game jam submissions, or familiarity with modern game engines (Frostbite, Unreal, Unity, Godot).

Soft Skills (what would make a good intern):

  • Collaborative Communication: Investigates feature requirements by consulting team members (Designers, Developers); documents findings clearly and ability to communicate technical requirements to non-technical team members.
  • Transparency & Progress Reporting: Tracks task progress; keeps leads and buddies informed on status and blockers in a timely manner.
  • Receptiveness to Feedback (Coachability): Follows the code review process; listens to guidance and incorporates feedback into revisions.
