Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as a C# front-end bond trading developer at Barclays, where you will contribute to the development and enhancement of critical trading technology solutions within a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment. You will work on enterprise-scale applications supporting bond trading workflows, partnering closely with engineering, testing, and product teams to deliver reliable, high-quality technology solutions aligned to business needs.
The role will include; designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale desktop applications using C# and WinForms, troubleshooting and enhancing complex codebases to improve performance and stability, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the delivery of trading functionality across bond trading and credit products.
To be successful as a C# front-end bond trading developer , you should have:
- Strong C# Desktop Application Development: Proven experience in C# with WinForms, demonstrating the ability to design, develop, and maintain large-scale enterprise applications using sound object-oriented principles and established design patterns.
- Technical Problem Solving and Code Quality: Strong analytical skills with the ability to debug complex, mature codebases, apply safe coding practices, and implement unit testing. Experienced in building real-time, event-driven desktop applications, with a solid understanding of performance optimisation, memory management, threading and concurrency, and maintaining responsiveness in long-running UI applications.
- Collaborative Delivery in Bond Trading Environment: Clear working knowledge of bond trading flows (trade capture, quoting, RFQs), ability to work effectively within a multi-team environment, aligning with testing and product strategy teams, other engineering teams, and managing priorities under guidance.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
- Modern Architecture and Technology Exposure: Familiarity with modern web technologies (Angular/React, TypeScript), containerised architectures, and enterprise messaging platforms.
- Data and Engineering Practices: Working knowledge of relational databases with the ability to write complex queries, alongside an understanding of CI/CD pipelines and their role in engineering best practices.
- Domain and Stakeholder Engagement: Experience working with business stakeholders to iteratively refine requirements, with knowledge of additional credit asset classes such as loans and CDS.
