Job Description

The Bethlehem Area School District is seeking a dependable C-2 Head Custodian to join our team at the Education Center. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide for the care, protection, and preservation of the building and grounds while maintaining a clean, safe, secure, and well-functioning environment for District staff, visitors, and other building occupants. The employee will perform custodial duties, monitor building safety and security, maintain custodial supplies and equipment, and support the daily operations of the facility. This is a full-time, 12-month position working Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and appearance throughout the building.
  • Perform general custodial duties, including cleaning and caring for floors, restrooms, furniture, walls, and other building areas.
  • Monitor and assist with the operation of heating, ventilation, electrical, air conditioning, boiler, fire alarm, and other building systems.
  • Maintain building safety and security by monitoring doors, windows, fire exits, safety devices, and potential hazards.
  • Maintain custodial equipment and supply inventories and assist with supply requests and budget recommendations.
  • Support and assist other custodial staff with the proper use of materials, equipment, and custodial procedures.
  • Perform routine custodial tasks, including changing light bulbs and servicing and cleaning custodial equipment, and identify and report building, equipment, and safety concerns requiring repair.
  • Receive deliveries and assist with the distribution and storage of District supplies and materials.
  • Assist with building events by setting up and removing tables, chairs, furniture, signs, flags, decorations, and other materials.
  • Maintain building grounds, including removing snow and ice from walks and entrances and keeping grounds free of debris.
  • Operate and maintain emergency equipment and systems as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor Custodial and/or building supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of custodial procedures, equipment, and cleaning materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work independently, and respond effectively to operational needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships with custodial staff, District employees, students, parents, and visitors.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding custodial work, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to successfully complete any required employment testing.

New Hire Starting Rate: $31.52 per hour

Current BASD Maintenance/Custodial employees covered by the Teamsters Local No. 773 Collective Bargaining Agreement should apply as "Internal Applicants." External applicants will only be considered if the position is not filled through the internal bidding process.
