Purpose of the Role
The Buyer is responsible for managing supplier portfolio and procurement activities to ensure material availability aligned with business needs. Beyond operational purchasing, this role actively contributes to strategic supply chain projects, supports business transformations, and drives continuous improvement across processes, cost, and supplier performance.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Manage end-to-end purchasing activities for assigned supplier portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate order execution.
- Ensure on-time delivery in line with S&OP plans through proactive supplier communication, expediting, de-expediting, and prioritization.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with suppliers to support performance, reliability, and long-term collaboration.
- Actively manage supplier-related risks and ensure timely escalation where needed.
Strategic Projects & Business Transformation
- Actively participate in and support strategic supply chain and operational projects (e.g., transfers, new product introduction, end-of-life, process standardization).
- Collaborate cross-functionally (Planning, Operations, Quality, Engineering, etc.) to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
- Take ownership of purchasing-related project deliverables, ensuring timelines, quality, and cost targets are met.
- Contribute to implementation of new processes, tools, and supply chain innovations.
Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and analyze key logistics and supplier performance KPIs (on-time delivery, forecast accuracy, lead times, etc.).
- Identify improvement opportunities and drive initiatives focused on inventory optimization, cost reduction, and process efficiency.
- Support and actively contribute to continuous improvement activities in line with PPI (Practical Process Improvement) principles.
- Manage the purchasing aspects of the rejection/quality issue process in cooperation with Quality teams.
Escalation & Problem Solving
- Participate in or lead supplier escalation processes, including coordination of escalation meetings, documentation, and follow-ups.
- Work closely with planning and cross-functional teams to define priorities and mitigate supply risks.
- Proactively identify potential supply issues and drive timely resolution across stakeholders.
Compliance & Operations
- Ensure all activities are performed in compliance with internal procedures (IMS, EMS) and applicable legislation.
- Contribute to accurate inventory management, including participation in stocktaking activities.
- Support management of integral logistics costs (inventory, transport, tooling, etc.) through informed decision-making.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Secondary or university education, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Experience in purchasing, logistics, or supply chain in a dynamic B2B environment.
- Experience with ERP systems and good knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Experience with participation in cross-functional or supply chain projects (e.g., transfers, NPI, process improvements)
