Hornblower is seeking a Buyer for our NYC Ferry operation in Brooklyn NY.

About the Opportunity:

As a Buyer (Purchasing Agent), you will be responsible for placing and tracking purchase orders, maintaining supplier relationships, and coordinating closely with internal teams to ensure materials are delivered accurately and on time. Working directly with the Procurement Manager, you’ll support both day-to-day purchasing operations and strategic sourcing initiatives. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Place purchase orders and follow up on order status to ensure timely delivery
  • Collaborate with internal departments to understand purchasing needs and timelines
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to support efficient and effective sourcing
  • Review supplier quotes and coordinate with the Procurement Manager as needed regarding pricing and vendor matters
  • Track and monitor supplier performance, including lead times and quality standards
  • Coordinate with the warehouse team to improve visibility on shipments and returns
  • Resolve delivery issues, delays, and discrepancies in collaboration with vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date order logs and procurement records
  • Assist the Procurement Manager on special projects, including process improvement and cost-saving initiatives
  • Support forecasting efforts to ensure material availability and prevent shortages
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 1–2 years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Microsoft GP, preferred
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment, preferred
  • HS diploma or equivalent
