General Summary:

Buyer I, under supervision, performs entry-level, standard purchasing duties with the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment and routine services.

Responsibilities:

  • Procures goods and services and ensure accuracy of such purchases.
  • Prepares specifications for purchases.
  • Received requisitions, secures bids, tabulates and makes award of standard purchases.
  • Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids and awards processed.
  • Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures.
  • Assists purchasing manager with processing of invoices and routing requisitions.
  • Maintains 100% compliance with timely completion of required System, University and job-specific online training courses.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience.
  • CTD (Certified Contract Developer) to be obtained within 12 months on start date.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of standard business terms and arithmetic.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience in accounting or similar field.
