Buyer I, under supervision, performs entry-level, standard purchasing duties with the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment, and routine services.
Responsibilities:
Procures goods and services.
Prepares specifications for purchases.
Receives requisitions, secures bids, tabulates, and makes award on standard purchases.
Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids, and awards processed.
Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures.
Ensures accuracy of purchases.
Returns incorrect/damaged shipments to vendors and resolves inquiries and problems relative to solicitation/procurement actions.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
No prior experience required.
Preferred Education and Experience:
One (1) to two (2) years of purchasing experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of standard business terms and arithmetic.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
Other Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
