Job Description

About the team

Gaming is one of Argos’ most fast-moving commercial categories, bringing customers the latest consoles, accessories, software and digital products from leading global brands. The team works across Buying, Merchandising, Digital, Marketing and suppliers to turn new announcements and release plans into compelling customer propositions, often at pace.

More about the role

As Buyer for Gaming Accessories, you’ll own a significant product range and translate category strategy into plans that deliver sales, margin, stock, availability, digital and customer measures. You’ll lead range selection, pricing, supplier negotiations, funding and promotional activity, using customer, market and competitor insight to make decisions.

Your day could include responding to a product announcement, reviewing trading, agreeing plans with suppliers, working with the Assistant Buyer on product set-up, or collaborating with Digital and Marketing on a launch. You’ll also contribute to an early-stage own-brand opportunity and support planogram work at Bradwell Abbey when required.

More about you

You’ll bring buying experience with direct accountability for commercial decisions and be able to show how data informed measurable outcomes. You’ll understand gaming products, customers, suppliers, launches or competitors.

You’ll work independently, manage supplier negotiations and deliver through cross-functional teams. You’ll also provide clear guidance to an experienced Assistant Buyer while retaining ownership of the commercial agenda.

Essential criteria

  • Buying experience with direct accountability for range selection, pricing, supplier activity and commercial KPIs.
  • Evidence of using sales, margin, stock, availability, customer and competitor data to make and evaluate decisions.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of gaming products, customers, release cycles, suppliers or competitors.
  • Experience of supplier management and negotiation, including pricing, funding, terms or performance actions.
  • Evidence of independently delivering a category or range plan through cross-functional stakeholders in multi-channel retail.
