The Franchise Buyer builds trust and credibility with franchisees, internal business partners, and suppliers to establish strong partnerships that contribute to the success of both the stores and FGL Sports. Working closely with the Associate Vice President, Purchasing, the Franchise Buyer is responsible for managing key product categories and achieving category objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide purchasing recommendations that meet the needs of each franchise banner.
  • Pre-select advertised product styles for the various banners, determine purchasing budgets by category and store, and pre-book quantities for advertised products.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements and terms based on category volume.
  • Prepare and coordinate product selection committees for the different banners to establish advertising programs.
  • Prepare and coordinate presentations for franchisees.
  • Develop pricing and competitive positioning guidelines for each product category.
  • Visit franchise stores and competitors to stay informed about market trends.
  • Source and purchase promotional items for the various franchise banners.
  • Manage inventory levels, gross margins, and markdown strategies across warehouse categories.
  • Collaborate with the Advertising Department in the development of catalogs and promotional flyers.
  • Provide customer service support to franchise stores and suppliers.
  • Demonstrate leadership by contributing to the management and development of an analyst.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sporting goods retail or an equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of buying experience, preferably within the sporting goods retail industry.
  • College diploma or university degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of the sporting goods retail market.
  • Proven ability to negotiate with both sporting goods industry suppliers and franchisees.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook in a Windows environment.
  • Bilingualism required (French and English, both written and spoken).
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize effectively, and ability to work collaboratively and under pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
