Job Description

Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where creativity, customer trends, and commercial outcomes come together? We have a fantastic new opportunity that could be the perfect fit for you!

The Warehouse Group (TWG) has become a Kiwi household name, and we proudly recognise the role that we play in communities throughout New Zealand. We are the largest general merchandise retailer in NZ across The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery & Noel Leeming. We are at an exciting point in our journey where our focus is on becoming brand-centric, aiming to deliver an unparalleled experience for our customers. Agility and collaboration are cornerstones of our work culture, empowering us to adapt swiftly and work seamlessly together. By being brand-led and retail-focused, we are intentional about placing the right people in the right roles, allowing us to perform work that truly makes a difference.

This is a unique opportunity to shape a category identified as a key growth driver for the business. With significant investment and high expectations for the future, our ambition is to become the “home of creativity” for customers across New Zealand, making this an incredibly exciting time to join the team.

You’ll have the opportunity to stamp your mark on the Art category portfolio, shaping and evolving our offer to ensure we remain relevant, competitive, and inspiring for our customers. You’ll play a key role in creating solutions that balance creativity, customer trends, and strong commercial outcomes.

This role has a strong relationship management focus while staying true to the core of buying and trading. You’ll work closely with suppliers and partners to bring innovative, trend-led, and locally relevant products to market, with a product mix that leans more heavily toward local sourcing than overseas.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and executing category strategies that align with customer trends, creative passions, and business goals

  • Building and optimising inspiring product ranges that deliver strong commercial performance

  • Identifying opportunities through sales analysis, market trends, and customer insights

  • Building strong partnerships with suppliers, with a focus on relationship management and collaboration

  • Partnering across functions to ensure cohesive and seamless delivery of ranges

  • Negotiating with suppliers to deliver innovative, competitive, and locally relevant products

  • Using tactical levers to trade your categories effectively and drive performance

  • Staying ahead of trends in art to ensure TWG remains relevant and compelling for customers

Qualifications

Highly commercial, creative, and customer-focused in your thinking, you’re motivated by the opportunity to drive growth and elevate category performance in a space that inspires customers to create and explore their hobbies. You’ll bring strong buying capability alongside the ability to build authentic, long-term supplier relationships.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Solid retail buying and category management experience

  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Proven ability to develop and deliver strategic category plans

  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation, and analytical skills

  • A customer-first focus with the ability to anticipate and respond to market trends and creative passions

  • Experience using tactical levers to trade categories and deliver commercial outcomes

  • The ability to build sustainable, long-term supplier partnerships

  • Decisiveness, resilience, and drive in a fast-paced environment

  • A collaborative and engaging working style

  • An appreciation for trends within art or creative categories would be advantageous

About The Warehouse Group

The Warehouse Group (TWG) is a New Zealand success story, founded by Sir Stephen Tindall and evolved from a single The Warehouse store to become one of the largest retailing groups in New Zealand with $3 billion in sales. TWG consists of three core retail brands: The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, and Noel Leeming. We have over 180 retail stores, online stores as well as distribution centres throughout New Zealand. We also have two overseas sourcing offices located in China and India. We are a people-centred business with more than 10,000 team employees across our locations.

TWG is known for being Here for Good - it’s who we are and what keeps us focused to succeed. It represents our commitment to better living for all New Zealanders, through sustainable retail products and practices and the mission of contributing to the long-lasting health of our planet.

Over the years, we’ve raised over 50 million dollars for New Zealand communities and have contributed to countless community-focussed initiatives. We were the first company in New Zealand to add a Shielded Site link to the Women's Refuge website to help protect those experiencing family violence, and were a key supporter of the Government’s Family Violence Victims’ Protection Bill. We were New Zealand’s first large company and the third major retailer in the world to go carbon neutral.

While we are 40+ years old as a business, in many ways we feel we’re just getting started.
