Description

A Buyer/Purchasing Specialist in an industrial environment is responsible for the strategic acquisition of raw materials, components, equipment, and services necessary for manufacturing and operations. This ON-SITE position requires balancing the cost, quality, and delivery of products to ensure an uninterrupted flow of materials and contribute to the company's efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing:Evaluate potential domestic and international suppliers based on quality, cost, and compliance with specifications.
  • Negotiation and Contract: Negotiate prices, submit contracts, and terms of purchase. Review purchase orders and agreements.
  • Order Processing and Expediting:Create and issue purchase orders, track their status, and expedite deliveries as needed to prevent production delays.
  • Inventory Control and Demand Forecasting:Monitor inventory levels to avoid stockouts or overstocking. Collaborate with production and operations teams to forecast future demand.
  • Cost Analysis and Optimization:Analyze price proposals, and total cost to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement procurement strategies to achieve savings targets.
  • Quality Assurance and Issue Resolution:Work closely with quality control and engineering departments to ensure purchased materials meet quality standards. Resolve issues related to defective or unacceptable goods, invoice discrepancies, and delivery problems.
  • Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate and detailed records of purchases, supplier information, and contracts. Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, spending, and supplier performance.
  • Flexibility: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in industrial procurement or strategic sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Certifications: APICS, CPIM, CSCP, or ISM/CPSM are considered a strong plus.
  • Systems: Advanced proficiency in MRP systems to manage demand forecasts, historical data, and operational planning.
  • Data Analytics: High-level Excel skills are required; you should be comfortable using Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and develop formulas to query data.
  • Global Sourcing: Experience managing international supplier relationships, including an understanding of global logistics, lead times, and landed cost analysis.
