Job Description

POSITION GOAL:

This position is responsible for developing and executing buying strategies to reduce costs, reduce lead times, improve supplier service and assure an effective Source to Pay process. The Buyer is responsible for ensuring the best total cost is achieved, along with the best possible lead times and overall quality to achieve our customer service goals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Execute the full PO lifecycle including creation, confirmation, tracking, and closure, ensuring alignment with demand and delivery requirements.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data in ERP systems, including timely updates to PO notes, dates, and supplier commitments.
  • Respond to internal customer inquiries and pricing requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Identify and escalate supplier delivery issues and obsolescence risks, validating supplier commitments and obligations prior to escalation.
  • Prioritize urgent requirements and expedite supply to meet customer commitments.
  • Support cost management efforts, including negotiating with suppliers to mitigate cost increases where appropriate.
  • Monitor supplier performance using established dashboards and scorecards, supporting improvement initiatives to maintain a reliable supply base.
  • Collaborate with Inventory Planning to ensure appropriate stock levels and proactively flag supply risks.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support team activities, including assisting peers and participating in cross-functional meetings as required.
  • Follow departmental processes and procedures, contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist Category Supervisor/Manager with special projects as required.

Requirements

  • Post secondary education in Business, Supply Chain Management/Purchasing, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in procurement, purchasing or supply chain management.
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes, negotiation techniques and Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Strong organizational skills, alongside effective verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with ERP system is a plus.
  • Ability to multitask and make quick, effective decisions.
