Business Unit Lead - U4

Job Purpose / Main Purpose

The Business Unit Lead U4 is responsible for defining and executing local business strategies to achieve financial and commercial targets for Crop Protection in Mexico’s Southern and High Valleys. This includes full accountability for Net Sales, OPEX, Gross Profit, Volume, and Market Share.

The role also holds regional responsibility for Glyphosate across the NorLa region and leads all BCS activities for Unit 4, ensuring the implementation of a DSO-based strategy focused on sustainable growth, market share expansion, and profitability.

Scope of the Role

  • Geographic Scope: Mexico (Crop Protection) and NorLa Region (Glyphosate)
  • Organizational Scope: BCS Unit 4
  • Business Scope: Full P&L ownership, Working Capital, and profitability

Key Accountabilities

  • P&L Management: Own and manage the P&L, Working Capital, and overall profitability of BCS Unit 4.
  • Business Strategies: Define and execute short- and long-term business strategies aligned with regional and global Crop Science objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, inspire, and align unit teams by setting a clear strategic direction and translating it into measurable outcomes.
  • Competitive Analysis: Assess the long-term competitive landscape and ensure the business strategy addresses market dynamics, customer needs, and sustainability goals.
  • Agile Operating Model: Enable an agile and collaborative operating model by removing organizational silos and fostering cross-functional ways of working.
  • Business Development: Co-develop new business opportunities within the unit, ensuring optimal allocation and efficient use of resources.
  • Relationship Management: Actively manage relationships with key external stakeholders, including distributors, key customers, agricultural opinion leaders, government officials, and industry associations.
  • Regional Representation: Represent the business at the regional (NorLa) level and ensure alignment with regional leadership.
  • People Development: Develop people and capabilities through coaching, feedback, and role-modeling continuous learning and professional development.

Key Stakeholders / Working Relationships

  • Internal:

    • Crop Science NorLa Leadership Team (strategy alignment, target definition, and business reviews)
    • Cross-functional partners (Marketing, Finance, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Commercial Excellence)
  • External:

    • Distributors and key customers
    • Agricultural opinion leaders
    • Government and regulatory authorities
    • Industry associations

Leadership & People Management

  • Direct Reports: Approximately 45
  • Team Leadership: Overall team leadership and talent development for BCS Unit 4.
  • High-Performance Culture: Accountable for building a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.

Financial Responsibility

  • Sales Accountability: Approximately EUR 90 million
  • Cost Management: Direct accountability for cost management, profitability, and working capital.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of proven experience leading commercial and/or marketing organizations.
  • Skills: Solid experience in strategy development, business management, project management, and financial management. Strong people leadership, planning, and execution skills.
  • Market Complexity: Ability to manage complexity in a concentrated and highly competitive market.
