
Basic Purpose
The position is responsible for the ongoing performance reporting, forecasting and long-range planning for company’s IT projects. Drives improved financial controls and efficiencies in collaboration with BHE IT finance as well as develop new processes to advance accounting accuracy with IT project intercompany billings. Leads regulatory filing preparation and recovery efforts for all IT projects deployed at the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Tracking and Internal Reporting of IT Projects
• Leads the financial reporting accuracy of IT projects as they relate to intercompany billings coming from BHE IT Finance.
• Participates in the preparation of the company’s Fall 10-year plan and PMO representing all IT projects.
• Ensures accurate allocation of costs to the company.
• Ensures the accurate and timely preparation of financial reporting for all IT projects.
• Monitors results of reporting to identify and escalate to management on significant variances from forecast and budget.
• Monitors and reports on management objectives with respect to long range financial plans, regulatory strategy and capital expenditure recovery.
• Ensures departmental operations and maintenance expenses and capital projects are delivered within approved spending limits.
• Provides research, prepares analyses, and gathers supporting information that will be presented to leadership, regulators, customers, internal counsel, external counsel, and outside consultants.
Regulatory Filing Preparation and IT Project Recovery
• Coordinates with the regulatory department to incorporate rate case strategies.
• Provides support to the regulatory team with response to data requests for federal and state regulatory filings.
• Leads analysis, preparation and presentation of supporting information for the IT projects and cost recovery mechanisms.
• Gathers, reviews, analyzes, and documents financial and operating information used in support of various regulatory filings and compliance reports.
• Supports the preparation of testimony and submission of regulatory filings.
• Maintains documentation of Company’s contractual documents, Authorization for Expenditures, business cases, benefits, and justifications for the discovery process.
• Monitors regulatory changes and provides information to ensure compliance with regulatory commission directives.
Operational Excellence and Process Improvement
• Collaborates with BHE IT Finance to identify intercompany billing process efficiencies to improve the accuracy and transparency of financial reporting
• Facilitates cross-functional process mapping and improvement initiatives.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field and 8 years of combined accounting, financial planning and analysis experience. Advanced accounting or finance degree and/or public accounting experience preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• Advanced technical knowledge and an advanced understanding of financial planning, forecasting and analysis as well as NV Energy’s business processes.
• Detailed understanding of NV Energy’s regulatory and political environment in which the company operates; applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations and NV Energy’s policies, procedures and practices.
• Demonstrated experience with finance, accounting, budgeting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Demonstrated skills such as:
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to perform responsibilities within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy
• Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department and the throughout NV Energy and BHE.
• Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary to effectively complete responsibilities.
