About us | Mō mātou

The Legal Services team provides advice, support, dispute resolution, civil litigation, prosecution and tax technical services to the Customer and Compliance Services (CCS) customer segments and other parts of Inland Revenue. Legal Services is part of CCS – Business and is one of the largest government in-house legal teams.

About the role | Mō te tūnga 

We have seen a growth in our debt focused work and have a permanent opportunity for a Business Support Officer (L2) in our Hamilton office to support this demand.

You will primarily assist Legal Services with bankruptcy and liquidation processes. Our Business Support draft court documents to be reviewed by solicitors, liaise with various courts, arrange service of documents on taxpayers via process servers, assist in the preparation of material to be presented in some court hearings, manage physical documents as well as keeping these and our case management system up to date. They also track information, making sure the correct process is followed and timeframes adhered to. They are a close-knit team who are able to work together to balance their priorities.

You will also support our litigation team but with other cases and tasks. You will also:

  • Produce, co-ordinate and distribute information and documents in a tailored format to support delivery of better business outcomes

  • Build highly effective relationships with the national team and other key stakeholders

  • Assist our legal team in preparing civil and prosecution cases, focusing on the use of our Evidence Management Tool in preparing documents for court hearings.

  • Work across internal Inland Revenue systems

  • Assist with updates to the intranet and other guidance material

  • Assist with reporting

  • Undertake general administrative activities such as closing litigation files, archiving and updating records

You will bring a strong foundation in business support, along with a proactive and collaborative mindset. Specifically, you:

  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple competing tasks

  • Build strong relationships and liaise effectively with stakeholders and other business support teams to deliver outcomes

  • Show confidence in progressing work independently, without the need for close supervision

  • Bring a genuine interest in being part of an in-house legal practice focused on delivering high-quality outcomes for customers

  • Offer experience in an administrative or business support role, along with solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office
