Job Description

This is a key role in the Sheku Bayoh Public Inquiry, providing support to the Secretariat in relation to the governance of the Inquiry and financial tasks.

On 12 November 2019, the Cabinet Secretary for Justice announced his intention to hold a public inquiry into the circumstances leading to and following the death of Sheku Bayoh in 2015. The Inquiry commenced on 30 November 2020 and evidential hearings began on 10 May 2022. The Inquiry is independent of Scottish Ministers.

The Inquiry is examining the circumstances leading up to the death of Mr Bayoh, the post incident management process and subsequent investigation into his death. The Inquiry will also establish the extent to which Mr Bayoh’s actual or perceived race played a part in events, if any.

Scottish Ministers have recently appointed a new Chair. Evidential hearings have concluded and the Inquiry is now progressing to its final stages, including report writing and all that is involved in the latter stages of a Public Inquiry. This is an exciting opportunity to join the secretariat at this time, providing flexible support to the team to assist with the effective running of the Inquiry as a whole in its final stages. We are looking for a team player with good organisational skills who is willing to take on tasks across the Inquiry as necessary. The post holder will also assist the Inquiry Finance Manager with tasks on Oracle such as receipting invoices and other financial tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the governance of the Inquiry including supporting on the maintenance of risk registers, Inquiry programme plans, managing the Inquiry meeting schedule and other business management administration tasks.
  • Support work related to SG corporate systems that impact the Inquiry, including Oracle.
  • Work flexibly across the Inquiry to support a variety of tasks associated with evidence, record work, report work and legal work.
  • Card holder for the ePC (electronic purchasing card) for the Inquiry which includes paying invoices/ordering items using the card, as well as reviewing these on the online portal.
  • Take on the role of requisitioner on Oracle, primarily raising non catalogue and smart forms on the buying system and receipting invoices.
  • Ordering new equipment for the Inquiry.
  • Working closely, collaboratively and flexibly with other Inquiry team members on the smooth, effective, and efficient running of the Inquiry.

Working pattern

This role is a permanent level transfer position.
