What is the focus of the role?

As a Business Strategy Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping Telstra’s strategic priorities. This role sits within Telstra’s centralised strategy function and partners closely with senior leaders across the business to deliver high impact strategic initiatives. You will apply strong strategic and commercial judgement to support your assigned portfolio and senior stakeholders, providing clear, data driven insights that inform decision making and business planning. Your ability to lead cross functional teams and influence stakeholders enables you to solve complex problems and deliver meaningful outcomes within a defined time horizon. This is a hands on, delivery focused opportunity to make an immediate impact while contributing to Telstra’s continued growth and long term strategic ambitions.

Role Purpose

As a Business Strategy Manager, you will support and progress Telstra’s enterprise‑wide strategy by contributing to priority strategic programs that shape the organisation’s long‑term direction.

You are a trusted advisor to senior leaders, translating market insights, data, and commercial analysis into practical recommendations and executable strategies. Working across multiple areas of the business — including Telstra Consumer, Telstra Business, Telstra Enterprise, Product & Technology, and Telstra International — you will help maintain momentum across key initiatives while bringing continuity, rigour, and clarity to strategic execution.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments, can quickly establish credibility with stakeholders, and enjoys delivering tangible outcomes that influence enterprise‑wide impact.

We fully embrace flexibility and choice at Telstra. Every role can flex in different ways, and we encourage you to work where, when, and how you are most engaged, safe, and productive.

Key Responsibilities:

Applying strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and industry insight to develop and progress actionable strategies aligned to Telstra’s priorities.

Delivering data‑driven insights
Using data, analytics, and financial analysis to diagnose issues, identify opportunities, and support informed decision‑making by senior leaders.

Supporting strategic direction
Contributing to the articulation and execution of clear strategic direction aligned to Telstra’s long‑term objectives and evolving market dynamics.

Assessing market trends and opportunities
Analysing external and internal trends to inform strategic priorities and identify emerging growth opportunities.

Partnering with senior stakeholders
Working closely with executive leaders to prioritise initiatives, manage risks, and progress strategic programs of work.

Influencing across the enterprise
Building trusted relationships and influencing stakeholders across diverse business units to ensure alignment and delivery.

Communicating with impact
Preparing high‑quality presentations, papers, and scenario analyses that clearly communicate strategic insights and recommendations.

Leading and enabling teams
Providing direction and support to cross‑functional teams (internal and external) to deliver outcomes efficiently and effectively.

About You

You are a capable strategic practitioner who operates confidently in complex environments and can quickly build trust with senior stakeholders.

You bring:

  • Experience in management consulting and/or corporate strategy

  • Strong commercial acumen and sound business judgement

  • Solid financial capability, including P&L understanding

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, with the ability to translate complexity into clear recommendations

  • The ability to step into complex strategic agendas and deliver sustained impact

Please Note: Before applying for internal vacancies, advise your 1-up manager of your intention to apply, regardless of the length of time you have been in your existing role.

  • An employee can move internally if they meet 12 months minimum service for a Band 2 – 4 role, or 18 months minimum service for a Band 1 role. This minimum service requirement may be reduced with 1-up manager approval.

  • Internal Reference Checks are mandatory, and an employee’s current 1-up manager will be contacted as a referee during the recruitment process.

  • Release dates will be negotiated directly between the hiring manager and the 1-up manager (in extenuating circumstances, the Principal or Executive may make final decision)

  • Redeployees can apply for roles at any time and will be given priority status for suitable roles.

  • Before applying for a role internally, please see AskUs – Am I eligible to apply for internal roles

We fully embrace flexibility and choice at Telstra and it’s as unique as you. We believe every role can flex in some way and encourage you to work where, when, and how you are most engaged, safe, and productive. Talk to us about how a role could be flexible for you!
